Once upon a time, long before Cheech met Chong, Tommy Chong was the guitarist in the band Bobby Taylor and The Vancouvers. Their biggest hit was in the late '60s..."Does your mama know about me?."

Some highlights:

Pick Up Santa Claus and His Old Lady

Be sure to pick up Where There's Smoke, There's Cheech and Chong. This 2 CD set contains two essential, hilarious holiday trax, Santa Claus and His Old Lady, and Moe Money (featuring Rudolph).

Not only do you get their greatest bits, but you also receive some awesome unreleased material. The two Up in Smoke radio commercials, found in Rhino Records'™ vaults, haven't been heard since the 70s. These commercials are hysterical, featuring Arab, Saydis Saydat, as well as Horrendo Revolver.

The last track, Old Man in the Park, is a live sketch from a concert at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. It's about a punk harassing an old man. The old man, Chong, fakes a heart attack to get back at him. You have to hear it. This sketch can be seen on their out-of-print "Perform" video.

Besides the great sketches, the 2 CD set includes a booklet laced with photos and the most comprehensive Cheech & Chong bio we've ever read (written by the legendary Dr Demento).

In additional, she's been developing a live-action comedy titled "Stomp the Run," which will be available on cell phones and the web.

Tommy and Shelby Chong will be coming to Pittsburgh, PA this weekend for a gig at The Improv.

The Post Gazette conducted an interview with Tommy.

The funniest quote was about hosting High Times' Stony Awards last weekend.

"Can you imagine a stoner comedian playing to an audience that's too stoned? Because you got no reaction time. You're working in front of a brick wall. Their brain cells are busy trying to figure out: 'Am I sitting or standing?'"

He also discusses the chances of a Cheech and Chong reunion.

Update: Pittsburgh Live also conducted an interview with Tommy. Regarding the breakup with Cheech... "Cheech chose to sort of disown it. He wants to have his cake and eat it, too. You can't go to the Geraldo Rivera parties and expect old stoners to stay in your corner. Especially when you go on TV and disown them."

He also mentions that he's writing "The Unauthorized Biography of Cheech and Chong." This is set to hit stores summer 2008.

Up In Smoke/Still Smokin is #5 Best Selling DVD In Toronto

According to Rogers Video of Toronto, the Up In Smoke/Still Smokin Double Feature was the 5th best selling DVD last week.

This re-packaged DVD set was released in August.

Remembering 9-11

I can't believe it's been 6 years since that tragic day. Not a day goes by that I don't think of Kristine. She was a close friend of mine that died in the towers.
-Weedmaster

While on the subject of 9-11, it's important to for everyone to realize what did and did not occur that day. There's a great film created by Power Hour Productions titled In Plane Sight. Some of the points-of-view are open to interpretation. However, there are items in the film that are undeniably true.

For instance, a missile hit the Pentagon, not a plane. The hole was only 16 ft in diameter before the building collapsed. There were dozens of surveillance cameras on top of the Pentagon, as well as at a gas station, that captured what happened. However, the existence of these tapes has been denied. Most shocking is that there was no plane wreckage at the Pentagon.

The creators encourage bootlegging of the film so post it, upload it, rip it. It's allowed.

ANOTHER GOOD MOVIE, LOOSE CHANGE.

Review: Up In Smoke: Special Collector's Edition

We just finished watching the brand new DVD, Cheech and Chong's Up In Smoke: Collector's Edition (aka High-Larious Edition).

Lou Adler's team put a lot of work into this DVD. It's spectacular. The graphical intro to the DVD is sharp as hell.

Not only does it include all the great content of the original DVD release, such as really funny deleted scenes and commentary with Cheech and Adler, but it also includes brand new stuff.

There are new interviews with Cheech and Tommy in 'A Look Back At Up In Smoke.' In these interviews, Cheech and Tommy reveal how they met, how they came up with bits from their albums and reveal inside information about the making of the movie. Tommy is seen wearing his infamous 'hemp is a herb, Bush is a dope' t-shirt.

The Paramount Home Entertainment animation team animated Earache My Eye. The animation is almost as funny as the song. It even includes the Earache My Eye b-side 'I don't wanna go to school.'

If that wasn't funny enough, Paramount edited together every time the word "man" was said in Up In Smoke and put it to music.

Last, but not least, they included and animated two vintage radio spots used to promote the movie. The first features Horrendo Revolver. The second features Saydis Saydat. We had never heard these before.

The DVD is awesome.

Pick it up today.

Chong Appeared On Fox News Channel Today

Tommy Chong was on the Fox News Channel today to promote the paperback edition of his book, The I Chong: Meditations From The Joint.

During the interview, Tommy mentioned that his reality show wasn't picked up because it was boring. He said the most exciting thing was him getting into a fender bender, where he cursed a lot.

Regarding the reunion...he said Cheech, more or less, just wants him to be a back-up guitarist for him. That, he said, he will not do.

Up In Smoke: Collector's Edition Hits Stores Tuesday

Cheech and Chong's Up In Smoke: Collector's Edition hits stores Tuesday. We have them already and have begun shipping. It's awesome!

High-Larious has tons of extras the original DVD release did not have.

Commentary by Cheech Marin and Director Lou Adler. Tons of rare information.
Roach Clips (Deleted Scenes) With Optional Commentary.
"Lighting Up" - A Look Back at Up In Smoke.
"Basketball Jones" - Cartoon Short w/Intro (NOTE: At the last minute, Paramount decided not to include.).

"The Man Song" - Compilation of film clips showing all the times Cheech and Chong say “man” in the film. It plays somewhat like a song.
Still Smokin' Tie-in.

Rob Frith collects posters of bands from the 1960s. In fact, he's a super collector. Rob Frith's collection includes a 1960 poster for Tommy Chong's first band, the Calgary Shades.

" Tommy Chong of Cheech and Chong fame was astonished to see that Frith had a 1960 poster for Chong's first band, the Calgary Shades, at a long-gone Chinatown nightclub called The Moon Glow. So Frith made him a copy."

Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Launch the National Radio Series 'The Big Read'

WASHINGTON, Aug. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- XM Satellite Radio today announced that XM and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) will introduce a national radio series called "The Big Read," named after the NEA's national reading program, which celebrates great books and their place in American life.

Every weekday, the show will air audio recordings of classic novels in 30-minute installments, plus NEA-produced programs about each book, featuring interviews, commentary, and readings by actors, authors and other celebrated personalities: Mary Louise Parker, Robert Duvall, Colin Powell, Sandra Day O'Connor, Garrison Keillor, Cheech Marin, Alice Walker, Edward Albee, Amy Tan, Tony Hillerman, and many others.

"The Big Read" will premiere nationwide September 10 on Sonic Theater (XM Channel 163), the channel dedicated to books and contemporary drama. The first book in the series will be Ray Bradbury's science-fiction novella Fahrenheit 451. Content for the series will be produced by XM, the NEA, and Audible, the leading digital provider of audio books and other spoken-word entertainment.

The NEA first launched The Big Read in 2006 as a national initiative to encourage communities to come together to read and discuss one book. Local organizations receive grants to host community-based programs devoted to a single book, such as The Great Gatsby. More information about the NEA's Big Read initiative is available online at http://www.neabigread.org .

The radio show seeks to build on the success of the NEA's reading program and expand it to a national radio audience. XM has more than 8.2 million subscribers nationwide.

"The Big Read initiative is making a profound difference in communities across the country, encouraging people to embrace the pleasure of books," said Josephine Reed, program director for Sonic Theater. "This new radio show fulfills a long-held goal of mine: to bring different communities across the country together to listen to, think about, and discuss literature. I'm thrilled to be working with NEA Chairman Dana Gioia, as well as our partners at Audible, to bring these great books to XM listeners nationwide."

At the end of each novel, Reed will host a discussion about the book with authors, teachers, and other book lovers.

"The launch of the Big Read on XM Satellite Radio is a major literary event. Creating a daily, national, drive-time show devoted to presenting and discussing great American novels is just what we need to revitalize reading in America," said NEA Chairman Dana Gioia. "This is the perfect marriage of technology and literature to increase the appeal of both. Our partnership with XM Satellite Radio has helped make the largest literary program in American history even bigger."

Cheech to Speak at Indiana University

Indiana University's Omnibus Lecture Series is dedicated to presenting diverse ideas through educated, respected, and entertaining speakers for the university community and the residents of northeast Indiana. Celebrating its 13th year, Omnibus has featured such notable presenters as Betty Friedan, James Earl Jones, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Ralph Nader, John Updike, Joyce Carol Oates, Depak Chopra, Eric Schlosser, Seymour Hersh, and Gail Sheehy.

This season features:
Cheech Marin, comedian and actor
Carl Bernstein, reporter and author
Samantha Power, journalist and professor
Henry Louis Gates, Jr., writer and scholar
Jerry Greenfield, entrepreneur,
Daniel Glaser, US Treasury Department Financial Terrorism official

Best known as one half of the hilarious counter-culture, no-holds-barred duo of “Cheech and Chong,” Cheech Marin is a paradox in the world of entertainment. As an actor, director, writer, musician, art collector, and humanitarian, he’s a man who has enough talent, humor, and intelligence to do just about anything.

For the past few years, Marin is finding a whole new audience through his Chicano art collection, which is one of the largest in the world. His collection forms the core of Chicano Visions: American Painters on the Verge, a traditional art exhibition, and is accompanied by Chicano Now: American Expressions, an interactive multimedia exhibition. In 2002, a coffee table book featuring highlights of his collection and exhibition was published.

Marin’s speech is titled “An Interpretation of a Culture through Chicano Art.”

When: Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007 | 7:30 p.m.
Auer Performance Hall, John and Ruth Rhinehart Music Center

The lectures are free and open to the public. Free parking is accessible in nearby lots and doors open at 6:30 p.m. Sign language interpretation is available upon request. For more information, visit www.omnibuslectures.org or contact University Relations and Communications at 260 481-6808.

ISC is unique because of its judges. Since its inception, ISC has become internationally renowned for having the most prestigious judging panel of any songwriting competition in the world, offering entrants the unprecedented opportunity to have their songs heard by the industry's top recording artists and influential music executives.

Continuing in that tradition, the ISC 2007 judging panel includes recording artists Tom Waits; Loretta Lynn; Ray Davies (The Kinks); Julian Casablancas (The Strokes); Nelly Furtado; Kenny Wayne Shepherd; Ornette Coleman; Youssou N'Dour; Sean Paul; Jerry Lee Lewis; "Weird Al" Yankovic; Frank Black (Pixies); Robert Smith (The Cure); Cassandra Wilson; David Cross; Craig Morgan; John Mayall; Joe Satriani; Toby Mac; Michael W. Cisco Adler Living The Rock Life

Cisco Adler, son of Lou Adler (Director of Up In Smoke, producer of the Cheech and Chong albums), is living "The Rock Life." "The Rock Life" is the title of his reality show which has been airing Monday nights on VH1.

Here's a brief synopsis of the show...
Malibu, California. It's 27 miles of the most exclusive coastline in the country. It's also home to the rowdiest rock band you've never heard of--WHITESTARR. They're a mixture of rock royalty and wide-eyed wannabes...five guys on one mission: to single-handedly save rock and roll. All they need now is for someone to take them seriously. Each week this band of brothers puts bros before hos as they set out on a musical odyssey to get drunk, get laid and get famous.

You may have seen his naked photos on the web. He's frequently getting naked for no apparent reason. He's also known for dating OC actress Mischa Barton.

Entertainment Weekly interviewed him. You can read it here.

Video: DVX Interview with Tommy Chong

DVX conducted this really funny interview with Tommy Chong shortly before he went to prison.

Tortilla Art?

Fifty-seven year old Hispanic artist, Joe Bravo, creates art in a very unusual way. He uses tortillas. That's right, tortillas.

Bravo's art is becoming more and more popular. In fact, Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers recently purchased a large-format tortilla for approximately $3200. Bravo says that Cheech Marin is also looking to purchase a piece.

Bravo has an upcoming exhibit in China and won the "play with your food" award at the 2007 Food Network Awards.
