Found: The Ice Cream Truck from Nice Dreams

For a very long time, we've wondered where the ice cream truck from Cheech & Chong's Nice Dreams vanished to. Well, it's been found.

Tim Petty of Ocala, Florida purchased the 1950 Chevrolet Good Humor Ice Cream Truck from "a company in St. Louis that specializes in vehicles for movies." The wheels and dashboard had been painted white for the film. It needed major restorations.

Cheech & Chong May Tour Outside the U.S.

Billboard Magazine interviewed Cheech Marin about the tour and the future of Cheech & Chong. He says "We're getting offers to tour other places outside of (the U.S.), so we might take a look at that. We're taking a look at all the options."

They may also do a movie. "We're talking about it. If one comes up and we can agree on what to do, how to work, then why not?"

"There was always a great love between us. We had a lot of respect and admiration for each other. I think egos got in the way. Now we both realized we (each) had half a treasure map, but we're not gonna be able to get the treasure unless we put the two halves of the map together again."

Cheech & Chong: Light Up America Tour Kicks Off In Philly

Beaners! Beaners! Sorry, I can't get that song out of my head.

On Friday night, the Cheech & Chong: Light Up America tour kicked off at the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby, PA (just outside Philadelphia). It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. It was my lifelong dream to see Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong perform live and I was glad to have played a part in getting them to reunite.

The show begins with a brilliantly produced video showing the history of Cheech & Chong. It features a stoner rolling a joint and lighting up while old photos of Cheech & Chong are shown. It's really cool and funny and the Big Green Van theme from Up In Smoke plays in the background. Whomever created this should win an award.

Shelby Chong (Tommy's wife) was the opener. She performed for twenty plus minutes. Her set was solid. Most of the jokes were new, others you may have heard if you had seen her and Tommy's stand-up act. All the jokes were funny and she was dressed-to-kill.

Then, Cheech & Chong came out and performed some of their greatest hits, as well as new bits. They did minor rewrites to some of their bits to make them fresher. Tommy provided a nice segway between bits by telling jokes from his stand-up act, as well as providing some history on the bit they were about to perform.

We don't want to give away too much, but they did perform Old Man In The Park which is only available on their 2 CD Anthology.

For the encore, Cheech & Chong performed a few songs and had a sing-a-long. Shelby Chong came out to dance the salsa with Tommy during one of the songs.

After the show, I hung out with Cheech, Tommy, Shelby and their awesome tour manager, Jimmy. They met fans, friends and a radio station contest winner during this meet and greet. Steve Bloom, from High Times and author of the book Pot Culture, was also there.

Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong are comic geniuses. They have unbelievable chemistry on stage. They didn't disappoint. They were both having a lot of fun out there. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. If there are any tickets left at a venue even remotely near you, make sure you go. Also, pick up the VIP Upgrade package when it becomes available for the show you are attending (click pre-sale link above). It's reasonably priced being you get a goodie bag with nice stuff in it (beanie, rolling papers and more).

Cheech & Chong on The Alma Awards

Two greats things happened tonight.
#1 The Cheech & Chong: Light Up America tour kicked off tonight in Upper Darby, PA. (full article will be posted by us this weekend)
and
#2 Cheech & Chong were on ABC-TV's Alma Awards. I'm sure a lot of you missed it. The show kicked off with the host, Eva Langoria, knocking on Cheech & Chong's dressing room door. However, instead of doing "Dave's Not Here," they did "Eva's Not Here." After Eva leaves, they open the door and smoke pours out.

Later in the show, Carlos Mencia gave a great and touching introduction to Cheech & Chong. Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong came on stage to a standing ovation. They told some funny jokes and Tommy shouted "Obama!"

Philadelphia Daily News Interviews Cheech & Chong

The Philadelphia Daily News interviewed Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong via phone, promoting tonight's show at the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby, PA.

Tommy Chong says "it was the nudging of their Web master at www.cheechandchongfans.com that finally got the two to patch up their legendary "differences."

"He sent me an article about how the Police and Led Zeppelin were back together again, even though they hated each other, and were making a ton of money," Chong recalled. "I told him to send it to Cheech. Then his people called mine, and the next thing you know, we're back together - joking, laughing, having a great time.""

Cheech says "A film version of the stage show also is in the works, Cheech added, and likely to be sold to one of the pay TV channels."
Note: This will be filmed at their Dallas show.

It's a great article.

When asked how they were able to overcome their differences and reunite, Tommy said, "Chong: We drove over to the alley and we fought it out. We said, "Fuck it, man. Let's get it on." We're so old, Cheech couldn't see me and I couldn't hear him. No, actually, we put our managers in a room and had them duke it out."

When asked if celebs are attending the shows, Cheech said, "I think when we announced the first shows, Justin Timberlake was on the phone 20 minutes later."

It was a fantastic evening. We were in the 4th row, dead center.
Superb venue, great acoustics. C & C were having a blast, especially
Cheech, you could really tell. Shelby Chong did a great stand up act
to open the show, which was on time.

I am really glad that I had some killer bud for this show.

My personal favourite parts would have to be Cheech rockin out in a
pink tutu and of course, Chong as "Blind Mellon Chitlin". The sing
along at the end was a nice touch.

I took advantage of a once in a lifetime chance to see
counter-culter's stoner Gods Cheech and Chong, and am ever so glad I
did.

5 out of 5 stars.

The early show last night at Toronto's Massey Hall got off to a great start for me and my wife. While we were outside the venue before the show having a smoke!, Cheech and Chong come walking down the street with their handlers to enter Massey through the side entrance. I got to shake Chong's hand and got a huge grin from Cheech, as well.

After the great start, it would only get better. Thanks to the presale tickets I got through cheechandchongfans.com, we had fantastic seats for the show. As we got settled in to our seats, who sits in front of us but comedian Eugene Levy from the old SCTV and more recently the American Pie movies. First up was Chong's hot wife Shelby, who got things going with a little stoner humour and some funny stories of Tommy. After 15 minutes or so out comes Cheech to a standing ovation and so he begins the first routine of polishing up the love machine from Up In Smoke and then out comes Chong to wild applause and off they go. The skit has been updated a bit with ky jelly replacing the dogshit in the quarter pounder joint. Tommy's stand-up routines between the skits are hilarious. Hey Margaret was a classic with Cheech breaking up in laughter during the routine. Blind Melon Chitlin' was fantastic with the crowd singing along as was Cheech's "Mexican Americans". Ralph and Herbie had both comedians laughing during the skit crawling around on their hands and knees.

The sold out crowd was laughing throughout the show singing 'Born In East LA" with the comedians, but I didn't smell much smoke until towards the end of the show as I suspect most of us were buzzing before we entered the doors. Both Tommy and Cheech looked like the were enjoying themselves immensely, although there were a few mix-ups with the props everyone just laughed it off, as we all sang the words to the Up In Smoke theme song for the grand finale. Even though this was just the second show of the tour you can see that the chemistry between Tommy and Cheech is still there. A show not to be missed!!

Spark a bowl because it’s high time we welcome back Cheech and Chong. The world was reintroduced to the Bob Hope Of Dope tonight in Ottawa. The air permeated with a stale stench of marijuana encrusted on dirty laundry with the accompanying excitement of anxiety that naturally follows. What were we about to see?

The room was full of a devoted love not felt from me since the Godfather of hippie’s most famous preacher, Jerry Garcia, graced an Eastern rug. An echoing holler began early while getting louder and louder as our internal clock counted down to four twenty. Finally the lights went out allowing the screams to become howls of joy. Shelby, aka Tommy Chong’s wife, opened the night with a 15 minutish bit that bordered on being uncomfortable because of too many drugs. Was it her or was it us? I don’t know if she has ever worked this act in front of a live crowd before but it was somewhat forced with moments of blinding clarity. Tough gig for her and I applauded all the way. She certainly did a good job with all the dicks in that room but I am confident it will only improve as the tour continues.

Upon her apt introduction of our favorite stoners, the room exploded into a state of pure bliss and what better way for them to start off with other than Cruisin’ With Pedro De Pacas. Were we really seeing this? Did it smell as bad as it looked? It’s expected one will return to an earlier self upon seeing your favorite scene from a stoner movie performed live, with updated dialogue, all the while defining who you are now but nothing will ever beat that gag. Ever. Cheech and his wardrobe won a gold medal tonight, as always. The shocker of the night was Tommy Chong’s standup routines, which surrounded many of the skits. This man is astoundingly talented. His characters, as well as his musical ability, are highly functional for someone who has apparently consumed in his life as much as we want to believe he has.

I could go on and on but I don’t want to spoil the party too much. Many of your favorite bits are performed. I thought Hey Margaret was incredible tonight. If you are a fan of Cheech and Chong or have at least gotten stoned, watched one of their films and laughed so hard you thought you actually pissed yourself, this gig is a must-see.

Cheech & Chong Made Their Debut Last Night

The Cheech & Chong: Light Up America and Canada tour kicked off last night in Ottawa, Canada. Shelby Chong opened the show by asking if anyone was stoned.

Many of the audience members were stoned. You could smell it.

Their first bit was "1st Gear, 2nd Gear" which you most remember from their film Up In Smoke. Other bits included Blind Melon Chitlin', Let's Make A Dope Deal, Ralph and Herbie and Hey Margaret.

They also had new material such as Cheech asking Chong why the joint is so slippery. It's because Chong used KY jelly to smuggle it out of prison.

Later, Cheech and Tommy came out to perform Earache My Eye. Cheech's tutu almost fell off.

Tommy says he'll be on the CBC interactive quiz show Test the Nation on Sunday. He also says that Cheech & Chong were originally supposed to do a movie, but Cheech didn't want Tommy directing.

Then, they were going to do shows in Las Vegas, but Tommy didn't want to do it. "You play comedy rooms there and they comp all the rooms to losers. It's like you're in a mental home."

SIRIUS' Grateful Dead Channel to Celebrate its One Year Anniversary

SIRIUS XM Radio (Nasdaq: SIRI - News) today announced that the Grateful Dead channel SIRIUS channel 32 will celebrate its first anniversary beginning Sunday, September 7 at 7:00 am ET and running through Tuesday, September 30.

The month-long celebration will include an exclusive premiere of The Dead's upcoming release Rocking the Cradle: Egypt 1978, highlights from the past year's programming, including appearances from the members of the band, live in-studio performances, memorable moments from the live talk show, Tales from the Golden Road, and visits from celebrity Deadheads like Jimmy Buffett, Jesse Ventura, Tommy Chong and many others.

The anniversary month coincides with the Grateful Dead's release of a historic, never-before heard concert performed at The Great Pyramids of Giza, Rocking the Cradle: Egypt1978. This special collection includes more than three hours of rare and previously unreleased music and will be in stores on September 30. This release also marks the 30th anniversary of the band's legendary performances in Egypt.

David Lemieux, Grateful Dead archivist and the daily host of Today in Grateful Dead History on SIRIUS' Grateful Dead channel, will host an hour-long premiere preview special highlighting the Egypt1978 release. The one-hour show will debut on Sunday, September 7 at 12:00 pm ET with an encore presentation at 12:00 am ET. The show will also rebroadcast at various times throughout "Anniversary Month" on the channel.

The Grateful Dead Channel launched exclusively on SIRIUS Satellite Radio last year. The channel features music spanning the band's career with unreleased concert recordings and original shows hosted by band members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann. The channel also features rare archival interviews with Jerry Garcia and contributions from Grateful Dead expert David Gans and Dead archivist David Lemieux.

Tommy Chong Discusses his Incarceration and the Upcoming Cheech & Chong Film

Monsters and Critics interviewed Tommy Chong about the award-winning film a/k/a Tommy Chong (now available exclusively from our site in smokeable paper).

During the interview, Tommy tells a touching story about his pet dog. The dog stared at the front door for 9 months, waiting for Tommy to return from prison. Three days after he returned, his dog died.

When asked if there will be another Cheech & Chong film, Tommy says "Absolutely, Cheech was tired of the movies we were making. And he doesn’t want to talk about it yet, but we are planning a film, and the premise and feel will be similar to “Up in Smoke;” we are working on stuff together."

Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong Discuss the Breakup and Reunion

The Ottawa Citizen interviewed Cheech Marin from his home in Malibu about how he and Tommy broke up and managed to reunite. They also interview Tommy Chong via phone.

"It came down to what we can argue about the least," says Cheech. "A short time ago we had a row and were calling each other every kind of motherf----- that there is and everyone around us was looking at us like we're crazy. So we've decided to be friends and it's as friends that we can go forward and do this."

When asked if he read Cheech & Chong: The Unauthorized Authorized Autobiography, Cheech says "I don't read unauthorized material."

"Neither one of us knew how much we missed each other until we started working again," says Chong.

The Cheech & Chong: Light Up America and Canada tour kicks off this Friday in Ottawa, Canada.

It's a great article.
