Cheech to Receive Smithsonian Honor

On September 5th, the Smithsonian Latino Center will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary with a signature black-tie benefit to acknowledge and honor the impact of Mexico on American heritage and culture. This event will gather 700-1,000 national Latino community leaders, elected officials, members of the diplomatic community, corporate executives and other prominent guests, to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month in Washington, D.C.

The evening’s festivities will take place at the National Museum of the American Indian, with vibrant décor and live entertainment highlighting the rich, ancient culture of Mexico as well as the present day impact of Mexican heritage on U.S. society. The gala will feature a special awards ceremony to recognize prominent individuals of Mexican descent who have made positive contributions to American art and culture.

Cheech Marin will be a Legacy Award Honoree for Arts Advocacy.

Tickets for the gala are $250 per individual and funds raised from the event will support the Center’s educational activities, public programming and outreach.
