Daytime Beauty Awards To Honor Tommy Chong With The Zen Award

The 2nd annual Daytime Beauty Awards, founded by LATF USA's publisher, Michele Elyzabeth, will take place on Friday, September 20th, 2019  at the Taglyan Complex in Los Angeles.

The Daytime Beauty Awards, which recognizes Science behind Beauty, will honor the ‘Godfather’ of cannabis, Tommy Chong with The Zen Award for his advocacy, contributions to the industry and Chong’s Choice product line.

The Daytime Beauty Awards places the spotlight on health & wellness professionals in: Dentistry, Medicine, Health & Fitness, Aesthetics, Skincare, Color & Styling, Cannabis, Beauty Innovation and more. The luncheon will benefit Helen Woodward Animal Center.

Tommy Chong in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot

Jay and Silent Bob are getting rebooted, this time for a sequel to a spinoff in Kevin Smith’s “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” of which Smith shared the trailer for his new film at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday.

The self-referential movie and finds the two lovable slackers and stoners trying to stop another remake of one of their own comics from happening…again.

This time though, the duo are fathers. As they set off on the road to Hollywood again, Mewes’s character meets his old fling and his love child named Millennium Falcon (Harley Quinn Smith). She’s even got her own silent best friend.

“Can you take us to Hollywood with you,” Falcon asks. “Either you take us to Hollywood, or I stab you both to death on my own f—ing front lawn.”

There’s a bunch of celebrity cameos, including Ben Affleck, Chris Hemsworth, Matt Damon, Jason Biggs, James Van Der Beek, Tommy Chong, Fred Armisen, Craig Robinson and many more. Smith announced on Instagram Thursday that Melissa Benoist, who he directed in “Supergirl,” was joining the project as the superhero of the rebooted take on Jay and Silent Bob’s comic “Bluntman and Chronic,” with Benoist playing a female version of Chronic.

“Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” opens in theaters from Saban Films and Fathom Events on Oct. 15. The film will play in 600 theaters nationwide starting at 7 p.m. local time and will be accompanied by a video message from Smith and Mewes. Fathom Events will also host a double feature of both Miramax’s “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” and the new film on Oct. 17.

After its initial release, Smith and Mewes will kick off the “Reboot Roadshow,” hosting screenings of the film followed by an in-person Q&A with the stars. The tour kicks off in Chicago on Oct. 20, and you can find more information about the tour here.

San Antonio Film Festival Honors Cybill Shepherd, Cheech Marin & Jackie Earle Haley at 25th Anniversary

SAN ANTONO, TX (July 9, 2019) SAFILM-San Antonio Film Festival announced the official selections for the 25th Anniversary celebration at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, July 30 – August 4, honoring SILVER Screen Legends: Cybill Shepherd, Cheech Marin & Jackie Earle Haley. In addition to over 100 short, documentary and feature length films from around the world, the 2019 Festival will also feature FREE Hollywood Insider panels, celebrity meet & greets, filmmaker socials, exclusive after parties, awards ceremony & more!

To kick-off six-days of SILVER Anniversary festivities, SAFILM partners with the city of San Antonio, a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy for Little Bites: SAFILM Food Film Festival on Tuesday, July 30 at the Culinary Institute of America.

The red carpet rolls out Opening Night, Wednesday, July 31 for actor Alex Wolff’s (Hereditary, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) directorial debut and the U.S. Premiere of THE CAT AND THE MOON, starring Wolff, Skyler Gisondo, Mike Epps and Stefania LaVie Owen. Alex Wolff is confirmed to attend. Cheech Marin (Cheech & Chong) will be presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Gary Gibbs, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Texas Commission on the Arts, followed by THE CHEECH, short documentary exploring Marin’s lifelong advocacy of the Chicano Art Movement. THE MARGARITA MAN, directed by Daniel Ramos, will also screen, starring Pepe Serna, Danny Trejo and Jesse Borrego.

Now we have Hollywood A-listers sharing their expertise with the next generation of filmmakers, right here in San Antonio.”
