HBO U.S. Comedy Arts Festival is No More
HBO has pulled the plug on its 13th annual U.S. Comedy Arts Festival. This was a huge event in the comedy world. Lots of people have been on that stage such as Monty Python and the cast of The Simpsons. In fact, this is where Cheech and Chong had announced their now defunct reunion.
No explanation has been given for why it was canceled. The festival may return next year.

Release Date Set for South of the Border
Disney's new film, South of the Border, will hit theaters August 8th, 2008.
Cheech Marin was one of the first people cast for this film. Others include Andy Garcia, Salma Hayek, George Lopez, Paul Rodriguez, Placido Domingo, Edward James Olmos, and Eddie "Piolin" Sotelo.
"South of the Border" chronicles the adventures of a pampered Beverly Hills chihuahua named Chloe (Barrymore) accustomed to riding in a purse. While on vacation in Mexico, she gets lost and must rely on her friends to help her get back home.
Garcia is playing a German shepherd who was kicked off the police force because he lost his sense of smell and has now given up on life. Hayek is Chloe's spirit guide who helps her find her true heritage.
Lopez is Papi, a macho romantic Chihuahua who will do anything for the love of Chloe.

Pick Up Santa Claus and His Old Lady
Be sure to pick up Where There's Smoke, There's Cheech and Chong. This 2 CD set contains two essential, hilarious holiday trax, Santa Claus and His Old Lady, and Moe Money (featuring Rudolph).
Not only do you get their greatest bits, but you also receive some awesome unreleased material. The two Up in Smoke radio commercials, found in Rhino Records'™ vaults, haven't been heard since the 70s. These commercials are hysterical, featuring Arab, Saydis Saydat, as well as Horrendo Revolver.
The last track, Old Man in the Park, is a live sketch from a concert at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. It's about a punk harassing an old man. The old man, Chong, fakes a heart attack to get back at him. You have to hear it. This sketch can be seen on their out-of-print "Perform" video.
Besides the great sketches, the 2 CD set includes a booklet laced with photos and the most comprehensive Cheech & Chong bio we've ever read (written by the legendary Dr Demento).
Q & A with Cheech Marin

Our favorite quote from Cheech, " [In School] I was a teacher's worst nightmare: I was a class clown who got straight A's."

Hobotrashcan Interviews Tommy Chong
The website, hobotrashcan, conducted a very thorough interview with Tommy Chong. This is rare. Frequently, interviewers know very little about their subject and don't do any research. hobotrashcan asked some fantastic questions and Tommy gave really intelligent answers.
Tommy discusses the Cheech & Chong movies/albums, his relationship with Cheech, their on again/off again reunion, pot, what he'd do if he were president, stand-up and more.
