Cheech Marin's Born in East L.A. [COLLECTOR’S EDITION] on Blu-ray™ March 19

Los Angeles, CA – On March 19 Shout Select will release Born In East L.A. [Collector’s Edition], on Blu-ray™. Special features include new interviews with Cheech Marin, Kamala Lopez, and Paul Rodriguez, a new audio commentary with Cheech Marin, the extended television cut of the film, the theatrical trailer, photo gallery, and production notes.

Cheech Marin wrote, directed and starred in Born in East L.A., a hip, outrageous comedy that’s more timely than ever. The story follows Rudy (Marin), an American of Hispanic descent, whose south-of-the-border looks show him no mercy during an immigration raid in a migrant worker factory. As his luck goes, he is caught with neither money nor his ID and is deported to Mexico – without speaking a word of Spanish! Unable to contact his vacationing family or his newly immigrated cousin (played by comedian Paul Rodriguez), Rudy is in for a crazy ride as he tries every legal – and illegal – scheme he can think of to get back home. He finds himself in jail, in love, and practically in-sane in this hilarious case of mistaken, or rather, misplaced, identity.

· NEW Audio Commentary By Director/Writer/Star Cheech Marin
· NEW Interview With Cheech Marin
· NEW Interview With Actress Kamala Lopez
· NEW Interview With Actor Paul Rodriguez

Cheech and Chong Up in Smoke Actress, Louisa Moritz, Passes Away

Sad day, folks.  Actress, Louisa Moritz, has passed away of natural causes.  She portrayed Officer Gloria Whitey in Cheech and Chong's Up in Smoke.

“Her heart just gave out. She died of natural causes. She wasn’t well this last year and had balance problems,” her spokesman Edward Lozzi told the Daily News.

In Up in Smoke, Pedro and Man go to the police station.  Officer Whitey shows them around.  Gets them confiscated coke.

In addition, she's known for her role in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, as Rose the Hooker.

Louisa is also one of the first women to accuse Bill Cosby of Rape.  She stepped forward in 2014 to say Cosby forced his penis in her mouth in a dressing room before a 1971 appearance on Johnny Carson’s “Tonight Show.”

Joseph Cammarata, the Washington D.C. lead attorney in the defamation lawsuit against Cosby, released the following statement today:

"Louisa Moritz was a brave woman who stood up against a powerful Hollywood icon, Bill Cosby, in an effort to restore her good name and reputation, after he publicly branded her a liar when she made public her allegations of sexual abuse and assault by Mr. Cosby. Ms. Moritz was one of seven women who sued Bill Cosby for defamation. Despite her death, her claim against Mr. Cosby will continue in a Federal court in Massachusetts. We look forward to a resolution of the case that will establish that Louisa was a truth teller, so that her legacy will live forever untarnished."

She was 72.

Richard Stanley Directing New Film with Nicholas Cage and Tommy Chong

Nicolas Cage has grabbed the lead in Color Out of Space, a sci-fi thriller from director Richard Stanley and co-producers SpectreVision and ACE Pictures.

Based on a novella by H.P. Lovecraft, the indie project reunites Cage with SpectreVision, the genre division of Company X, which produced the 2018 psychedelic revenge drama Mandy. Color Out of Space also stars Joely Richardson, Tommy Chong, Julian Hilliard and Q’Orianka Kilcher.

The film, which starts production next month, portrays the Gardners, a family who move to rural New England for country peace, only to face a meteorite crashing into their front yard. The mysterious aerolite infects the land with a strange, otherworldly color, leaving the Gardner family to face an alien force gradually mutating every life form it touches.

Stanley is directing his first feature in over 20 years, after earlier cult classics like Hardware, Dust Devil and the 1996 flick The Island of Dr. Moreau, with Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer,

Color Out of Space is produced by Daniel Noah, Josh C. Waller, Lisa Whalen and Elijah Wood. Timur Bekbosunov, Johnny Chang, Emma Lee, Peter Wong and Stacy Jorgensen will share the executive producer credits.
