Tommy Chong Selling One of his Homes

Tommy Chong has often said his wife, Shelby, is a real estate mogul.  He said she's made a killing flipping homes in Canada.  Hitting the real estate market this week is their home in West Vancouver, British Columbia.

Description from Zillow:
Live close to nature and connect with your soul at this amazing space. Nestled in one of the most private streets of West Vancouver, this home shares its harmony with the perennial gardens and a tranquil path that leads to the ocean. Full of windows and natural light. Current owner Tommy Chong, of the famous Cheech & Chong duo, knows it is a magical place and ready for the next family to create a lifetime of memories. With the wood-burning fireplace as the centrepiece of the open concept living room, it is ideal for entertaining. Stairs wind to a large master bedroom with an alcove perfect for a sitting room with views of the water. Feel right at home in a welcoming kitchen and family area overlooking the gardens. Don't miss this one of a kind opportunity in West Vancouver.

As you can tell from the photos, it looks staged.  In other words, the real estate company rented some furniture.

Cheech Marin Joining Don Johnson for Nash Bridges Revival

Cheech Marin will be joining Don Johnson for USA Network's Nash Bridges revival.  The show is currently being written.

The original Nash Bridges series ran on CBS from 1996 to 2001.

Why they're bringing this back is beyond me.  They show was mediocre at best.  Cheech is so old he had to cancel the remaining Cheech and Chong tour dates because of bad knees.  It's standup.  He could have just sat on a stool.

Cheech and Chong Honor Lou Adler

In April, we announced that Cheech and Chong would present Lou Adler with a Grammy Salute to Music Legends.  It aired last night.  Richard and Tommy's relationship with Lou has been on and off again.  Mostly due to money and album ownership.  However, they can make more money being cordial with Lou, the music mogul.

The Recording Academy will produce "Grammy Salute To Music Legends" in partnership with Thirteen as part of the "Great Performances" series on PBS, set to air later this year. Previously held during Grammy Week, this is the fourth year The Recording Academy has celebrated the Special Merit Awards with a stand-alone TV event and musical tribute. In addition to the tribute concert, special celebrity guests will present recipients their award statues and guests will enjoy never-before-seen video packages celebrating each of the honorees' contributions to the music industry and our cultural heritage.

REVIEW: Cheech & Chong, Nothing New Here

Canada's Daily Courier newspaper caught the Cheech and Chong tour when it hit South Okanagan Events Centre.

"Fans of Cheech & Chong back in their day would have found Wednesday's concert at the South Okanagan Events Centre to be a pleasant nostalgia trip.

For just about everyone else, it was an agonizing 75 minutes."

The reviewer is correct.  They never change their performance.  It's not even worth seeing anymore.

Keynotes

Reggie Fils-Aimé (Convergence) – As an award-winning innovator and disrupter, Reggie Fils-Aimé has helped bring Nintendo’s greatest successes to the global marketplace over the past 15 years. He retired as President and Chief Operating Officer of Nintendo of America Inc. in April 2019 with world-wide acclaim as an executive who loved leading his business and interacting with its employees, business associates, and consumers. Before Nintendo, Fils-Aimé had a successful career spanning the consumer-packaged goods, restaurant, beverage, and media/entertainment industries. Since retiring, he has focused his energy to grow the next generation of business leaders. In August 2019, he was named Cornell University’s Dyson Undergraduate Business School Leader in Residence. Fils-Aimé also founded Brentwood Growth Partners to help emerging companies scale and enable leaders to create world-class cultures.

Kim Gordon (Music) – With a career spanning nearly four decades, Kim Gordon is one of the most prolific and elusive artists working today. A Co-Founder of the legendary Sonic Youth, Gordon has performed all over the world, collaborating with many of music’s most exciting figures including Tony Conrad, Ikue Mori, Julie Cafritz and Stephen Malkmus. Most recently, Gordon has been hitting the road with Body/Head, her spellbinding partnership with artist and musician Bill Nace and debuted her solo exhibition “She Bites Her Tender Mind” at IMMA (Irish Museum of Modern Art) in Dublin and “Lo-Fi Glamour” at Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, PA. Despite her expansive and diverse résumé, the most consistent aspect of Gordon’s body of work may be its resistance to formula. Works discover themselves as they unspool, each one performing a test of the medium’s possibilities and limits. Her command is astonishing, but Gordon’s artistic curiosity remains the guiding force behind her music. Gordon continues this pursuit on No Home Record, her first-ever solo release, produced by Justin Raisen (Charli XCX, Ariel Pink, Sky Ferreira) at Sphere Ranch in Los Angeles, along with contributions from Shawn Everett (Jim James, The Voidz, The War on Drugs) and composer/filmmaker Jake Meginsky (L’appel Du Vide).

Cheech and Chong Album Masters Possibly Lost in Fire

The New York Times reported that a number of album masters were destroyed in the 2008 Universal Music Group fire.  They provided a short list of artists.

This new, more comprehensive list comes from multiple documents as part of "Project Phoenix," which was an effort by UMG to obtain replacement or duplicate copies of master recordings that were lost in the fire. This new list adds over seven-hundred new artists to the ones previously reported.

As far as we know, Universal never told the artists.

They haven't revealed which masters were actually destroyed, nor if they were really masters.

One of those artists is Cheech and Chong.

A Year In Music is the newest addition to the network’s music-themed Sunday Night Rocks lineup, which also includes the popular talk-and-jam program Rock & Roll Road Trip With Sammy Hagar at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT; the hilarious and heartfelt reality series Real Money, starring Eddie Money, at 8:30 pm ET/5:30 pm PT; and the immersive music festival series TrunkFest, hosted by Eddie Trunk, at 9:30 pm ET.

Beloved former MTV VJs Downtown Julie Brown and Matt Pinfield, rock superstar Don Felder and film, television and stand up comedy legend Tommy Chong are the pop culture icons and experts who host the series. A Year In Music puts the spotlight on a different year each week, exploring the impact and influence that bands, songs, pop culture, and politics had on the era. The season begins with a look back at 1977, as Brown compares and contrasts the sunny hit singles coming out of Los Angeles’ blossoming music scene with the melancholy moodiness emanating from New York City, and explains how pop music evolved into what we have today in the July 7th episode.

The ten episode season also features Pinfield’s examination of 1966, documenting the changing sound of pop music and the last glory days of classic crooners such as Frank Sinatra (July 14th); Felder’s trip to the Grammy Museum at L.A. Live, where he breaks down the music of 1969’s Peace & Love Movement (July 21st); Brown’s in-depth look at 1983 covering the birth of MTV, the early days of music videos, and the rise of heavy metal (August 4th); and Pinfield’s dissection of 1975, fueled by trailblazing bands such as Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, and political unrest spurred by the economic crisis (August 11th). Other highlights include Felder’s discussion of the headlines that dominated 1973 — ranging from Disco to Watergate, and everything in between (August 18th); a trip back to 1985, where Brown reflects on the growing influence of cable TV, the massive impact of music videos as a cultural cornerstone, and the unparalleled music scene that saw half of the ‘80s top albums on the charts in the same year (September 1st); and more.

“AXS TV is proud to welcome A Year In Music to our Sunday Night Rocks programming lineup,” states Evan Haiman, Vice President of Music Programming and Production, AXS TV. “The series is the perfect complement to a night that is, essentially, a celebration of all things classic rock—giving viewers a unique look at the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s by exploring the unforgettable songs, bands, pop culture, and even politics that impacted and influenced some of the most important years in music.”

Tommy Chong: Dancing with the Stars Gave Me Cancer

During his latest appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Tommy Chong blames ABC's Dancing with the Stars for giving him cancer.  He said the cancer was caused by the stress.  Chong goes on to say, he had to stop smoking pot while on Dancing with the Stars.  This also caused his cancer.

Keep in mind that Tommy Chong also said his cancer was cured by hemp and not by the radiation.

We're dumbfounded by his nutty commentary.

Happy Birthday! Tommy Chong is 81 Years Old

The dopemaster, Tommy Chong, turned 81 today. Tommy was born May 24th, 1938 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Cheech Marin Stars in Disney's The Little Mermaid

Lea Michele will be diving deep into the ocean this Summer when she helps bring Disney's The Little Mermaid to a live audience. The 32-year-old singer and former Glee star is set to play Ariel alongside Harvey Fierstein, Cheech Marin, and Peter Gallagher at the Hollywood Bowl in LA. According to Broadway World, Michele will swim to the stage for two performances on May 17 and 18 in celebration of the film's 30th anniversary.

The venue will also be transformed into a fish bowl-like environment to emulate the underwater feel and create an immersive experience for audience members. Attendees can also look forward to singing along to classic hits such as "Under the Sea," "Kiss the Girl," and "Poor Unfortunate Souls." Oh, and of course, Michele is going to grace everyone with her rendition of "Part of Your World," so bring tissues!

It's been an exciting time for Michele, who recently got married to AYR clothing president Zandy Reich. After their wedding, the two went on a romantic tropical honeymoon before making their first public outing as a married couple at the GLAAD Media Awards earlier this week. Considering how in love the newlyweds seem to be, we're guessing Reich will find a way to support his wife come opening night!

Cheech and Chong Up in Smoke Actress, Louisa Moritz, Passes Away

Sad day, folks.  Actress, Louisa Moritz, has passed away of natural causes.  She portrayed Officer Gloria Whitey in Cheech and Chong's Up in Smoke.

“Her heart just gave out. She died of natural causes. She wasn’t well this last year and had balance problems,” her spokesman Edward Lozzi told the Daily News.

In Up in Smoke, Pedro and Man go to the police station.  Officer Whitey shows them around.  Gets them confiscated coke.

In addition, she's known for her role in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, as Rose the Hooker.

Louisa is also one of the first women to accuse Bill Cosby of Rape.  She stepped forward in 2014 to say Cosby forced his penis in her mouth in a dressing room before a 1971 appearance on Johnny Carson’s “Tonight Show.”

Joseph Cammarata, the Washington D.C. lead attorney in the defamation lawsuit against Cosby, released the following statement today:

"Louisa Moritz was a brave woman who stood up against a powerful Hollywood icon, Bill Cosby, in an effort to restore her good name and reputation, after he publicly branded her a liar when she made public her allegations of sexual abuse and assault by Mr. Cosby. Ms. Moritz was one of seven women who sued Bill Cosby for defamation. Despite her death, her claim against Mr. Cosby will continue in a Federal court in Massachusetts. We look forward to a resolution of the case that will establish that Louisa was a truth teller, so that her legacy will live forever untarnished."

She was 72.
