Cheech Marin will Read for Children at Kraft Golf Tournament

More than 40 stars from sports, movies and television will begin play today at the Kraft Nabisco Championship’s Celebrity Pro-Am Tournament.

Celebrities and amateurs will tee off today and compete Wednesday as well in advance of the Kraft Nabisco Championship, which is the LPGA’s first Major of the year. The pro championship runs Thursday through Sunday at Mission Hills Country Club.

Some of the celebrities scheduled to take part in the tournament include actor Craig T. Nelson, Baseball Hall-of-Famer Johnny Bench, musician Alice Cooper, Dennis Haysbert of “24” and the Allstate commercials, comedian Richard Kind, actor Joe Pesci and actor Ray Romano.

As part of the Celebrity Pro-Am event, a “Reading on the Green” event will be held at 9 a.m. on the 18th green of the Dinah Shore Tournament Course. More than 1,000 children will listen to readings by LPGA players as well as Cheech Marin and Mary Heart.

This is the 40th year of the Kraft Nabisco Championship.

No word on whether or not this is a PR stunt to help people forget that Cheech Marin's ex-wife tried to get a restraining order against him for allegedly beating her and at the time, their thirteen year old child.
