Comedy Visionaries and Pop Culture Icons Announce Cheech & Chong: Light Up America

Successful beyond their wildest dreams, the iconic comedy duo Cheech & Chong defined an era with their hilariously irreverent, satirical, counter-culture, no-holds-barred comedy routines. Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong's phenomenal success began on the stand up comedy circuit which led to 9 hit comedy albums and 8 hit films, breaking box office records, shattering comedy album sales, garnering multiple Grammy nominations and mesmerizing fans for more than a decade. Today, from the world famous Troubadour where they were initially discovered, Cheech & Chong announced their first tour in over 25 years, an epic cross country U.S. trek with over 22 dates confirmed; additional dates to be announced in the coming weeks. Cheech & Chong: Light Up America ... tickets go on sale nationally at 4:20 PM on August 8th and are available at http://www.livenation.com/.

The Live Nation produced tour will kick off on September 12th at the Tower Theatre in Philadelphia. Other highlights include Los Angeles, Washington DC, Detroit, Atlanta, Miami, Minneapolis, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, Austin, Seattle, Boston, San Diego and Denver to name a few. Chong's wife and comedy partner, Shelby Chong, will open all dates on the tour.

With nine albums released from 1972 through 1985, the duo was nominated for four Grammy Awards, winning the Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album with their third album, Los Cochinos, released in 1973. Big Bambu, their second album, was the biggest selling comedy record of all time in 1972 and remained so for many years. Their stunningly successful comedy streak transitioned to film in 1978 with their first movie, "Up In Smoke," the highest grossing comedy of 1978, topping $100 million at the box office. Cheech and Chong co-wrote and starred in a total of eight feature films together, all directed by Chong. The comedy duo was initially discovered at the Troubadour in Los Angeles.

Your timing could not be more perfect... coming to DC just as they announce House Resolution 5843, titled the Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults Act of 2008. You should invite Barney Frank as a special guest for all he is going to further the cause.

Ah, yes. . .I remember seeing you. I believe, at Ebbets Field in Denver, Colorado, many moons ago when we were all very, very young. I hope that the tour is tremendously successful, and that you will come to the Norfolk/Virginia Beach/Richmond area. If not, I'll come to you. I assume that this is just the first leg of this tour, and that, after a rest, Richard and Tommy continue on as long as they wish.

I do have a personal hope: that, in addition to classic sketches and new material, that both of you will take time during the shows to share stories from your most interesting lives. It'll be a chance for younger fans who only know your Pedro and Man characters, recordings and movies to get to know the men behind the humor.

I'm looking forward to seeing you. Good luck!

I made the mistake of not going to see Ray Charles and he passed So you all be sure to beg borrow or Steal to gfet tickets to this show. Dont forget your old albums ans shit to get your autographs.

Hi Rae? Did you tell your dad about my movie idea? The one you said sounded like a great idea. I wont write unless your dad and Uncle Cheech likes it. Its not worth the trouble because only these two Cheech and Chong can do the movie. I bet I can get it produced. I know a few people now and I bet I can put the movie together. I bet I can sell somone to put up the MONEY We can put Pee Wee in it I like him too!

To tell you the truth...I was very pleased to hear that Tommy Chong will be doing a stand up comedy show in my hometown of Sydney, Nova Scotia on August 27, 2008...And with the announcement of him and Cheech Marin doing a reunion tour, Im pretty sure he'll be there as well for the show....And I knew this for a few weeks now...so Im kinda surprised that was not advertised as a Canadian show prior to the reunion tour...
