Syracuse New Times Interviews Cheech & Chong
The Syracuse New Times interviewed Cheech & Chong who were promoting their upcoming shows (January 3rd) at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino Showroom in Verona, New York. The publication did a very thorough job researching Cheech & Chong and had some great questions.
Some highlights...
When asked about smoking pot, Tommy replied "As soon as Cheech and I got back together again I stopped smoking, so I could remember what we used to do. I carried it over to this day. I haven’t smoked. I’m going to smoke at the end of the tour. I make these little signposts for myself. I’ll finish the tour, then I’m going to light up. I don’t need to smoke on the tour because everyone smokes for me."
When asked about if there are any future projects they'd like to do, Cheech replied "We’re going to start our own TV series."
It's a fantastic interview.

Lou Adler's Son, Cisco, Arrested After Bar Brawl
Cisco Adler, son of Cheech & Chong record and movie producer Lou Adler, was arrested Wednesday at the Hub in Fargo, North Dakota for simple assault.
After Adler's band Whitestarr completed their set, there was a disagreement over the band's bar tab. A fight broke out between the tour crew and the club's security. Cisco punched one of the security personnel.
He was released on $500 bail.
Some of you may remember Cisco from his VH1 reality show "The Rock Life."
You may have seen his naked photos on the web. He's frequently getting naked for no apparent reason. He's also known for dating OC actress Mischa Barton.

Cheech & Chong Talk New Movie, Getting Back Together and More
The Rocky Mountain News interviewed Cheech and Chong who were promoting their two shows this weekend at Denver's Paramount Theatre. They discuss their breakup, reunion, Barack, George Harrison performing on Basketball Jones and more.
Regarding the tour...
Cheech says "We wanted to go into smaller venues that would sell out and keep the ticket price manageable. It actually turned out to be prescient because of the economics now."
Regarding Barack Obama...
Chong says "More than anything, I wanted to make sure that Republican beast was dead. They'd taken me. I'd ignored their ass and I ended up doing nine months in jail because of their policies. I really wanted to stomp on the throat of that beast."
Great interview.

Updated: Cheech and Chong's Animated Movie To Be Produced By Indy Studio Big Vision Entertainment & Chambers Bros. Entertainment
Big Vision Entertainment, a leading independent licensee, producer and DVD label for special interest programming and Chambers Bros. Entertainment a television and animation production company, today announced an exclusive deal with music mogul Lou Adler, owner of Ode Records, for the animated movie rights to the classic Cheech and Chong library of recorded comedy content.
Cheech and Chong Smokin' Animated Movie
The exclusive worldwide production and distribution agreement includes all theatrical, television, home video and digital rights to create an animated movie based on the "pot culture" comics' most famous comedy bits. Eric & Branden Chambers are directing the animation. Project will be produced by Houston Curtis of Big Vision, along with Keith, Branden and Eric Chambers of Chambers Bros. Entertainment, who created the concept. In addition, Adler, Curtis and the Chambers Bros. will serve as executive producers. Project will be completely financed by Big Vision Entertainment.
"Big Vision is thrilled to be working with Lou Adler, the Chambers Brothers, and of course, Cheech and Chong," said Houston Curtis, Founder and CEO of Big Vision Entertainment. "While our expertise in both the television and home video space give us supreme confidence that Cheech and Chong's Smokin' Animated Movie will be a huge success in those markets, we are also excited about exploring the possibilities of a theatrical release."
Sales for DVD, digital and television will be handled through Big Vision's TV and home video arm, which currently has distribution for over 100 titles throughout the US and around the world.
"We feel that Cheech and Chong's special brand of comedy appeals to multiple generations," said Eric Chambers, partner of Chambers Bros. Entertainment. "By lending a unique animation style to these classic and timeless bits, we are able to transform the comedy into something fresh, exciting and even more hilarious than ever before."
"It's great to be doing a movie where Cheech and I never have to get out of bed or be on-camera," said Tommy Chong. "The fans have already shown us they love the material, and the animated bits play funnier by being able to see the character reactions. I highly suggest watching it while while smoking a big fattie!"
"During this age of feature animation everywhere, it's about time that we got animated because we've been doing animation without the animation for years" said Cheech Marin, "Whether you watch it smokin' a fattie or stone cold sober, it's just plain funny!"
Recording industry legend Lou Adler added, "With Cheech and Chong reunited and selling out venues worldwide, the timing couldn't be more perfect for this unique, one-of-a-kind animated feature."
Updates and info about the project will be available for fans and press at www.smokinanimation.com

Cheech & Chong Roast Helps TBS Set New Cable Record for Primetime
TBS is on track to set a new ad-supported cable record as it takes position as ad-supported cable’s #1 network in primetime delivery of adults 18-34, according to year-to-date numbers from Nielsen Media Research. In achieving this new record, TBS grew its delivery of the coveted young-adult demo by an astonishing 17% over 2007.
TBS’s success in 2008 has been due in large part to the network’s outstanding collection of both original and acquired sitcoms, including Tyler Perry’s HOUSE OF PAYNE, which ranks as ad-supported cable’s #1 sitcom of all time. The critically acclaimed original sitcoms MY BOYS and THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW enjoyed strong summer runs. And acquired series like The Office, My Name Is Earl and Family Guy rank as three of ad-supported cable’s most popular comedies among adults 18-49, with The Office and My Name Is Earl scoring significantly lower median ages than their telecasts on broadcast.
This year also marked TBS’s first outing as full presenter of THE COMEDY FESTIVAL in Las Vegas. The event featured numerous big-name headliners – from Jerry Seinfeld and Ellen DeGeneres to Jeff Dunham and Tracy Morgan. It also delivered several high-profile specials for TBS.
“This year, we have focused extensively on strengthening the TBS Very Funny brand with the best comedies on television and heavy involvement in major comedy events,” said Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks. “As demonstrated by TBS’s record-setting performance, comedy truly is king when it comes to engaging young adult viewers.”
2008 Ratings Highlights for TBS:
Year to date, TBS ranks #1 with adults 18-34 in primetime, scoring 17% growth in the demo when compared to 2007.
· TBS showed growth across the board in primetime, with adults 18-49 up 11%, adults 25-54 up 9%, viewers up 9% and households up 8%. TBS also garnered growth across the board in total day.
· TBS’s primetime median age is currently 35, five years younger than prior to its re-branding as a comedy network in 2004.
Tyler Perry’s HOUSE OF PAYNE ranks as ad-supported cable’s #1 sitcom of all time among adults 18-49, viewers and households.
· This summer marked the second consecutive summer HOUSE OF PAYNE ranked as the #1 program on all of television among African-American adults 18-49. For the year overall, it ranks second only to American Idol as television’s most popular show among African-American adults 18-49.
The second season of TBS’s THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW ranked as ad-supported cable’s #1 show in its time period (Thursdays, 9 p.m. ET) among adults 18-49.
· For the season, THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW averaged 2.6 million viewers, 1.8 million households and 1.4 million adults 18-49.
TBS’s MY BOYS posted solid growth for its second season when compared to its summer 2007 performance, with viewers up 17% and households up 11%.
· For the season, MY BOYS averaged 1.5 million viewers, 1.2 million households and nearly 1 million adults 18-49.
TBS claims four of ad-supported cable’s top five comedies among adults 18-49, with The Office topping the chart.
· When airing on TBS, The Office delivers a median age of 28, which is nine years younger than the show’s airings on NBC. My Name Is Earl also gets a much younger audience, with the TBS median at 30, which is 14 years younger than the show on NBC.
TBS recently completed its first year as full presenter of THE COMEDY FESTIVAL in Las Vegas. Several specials from the three-day event scored strong numbers for TBS.
· ELLEN’S EVEN BIGGER REALLY BIG SHOW scored 2.3 million viewers, up 53% when compared to her show from last year’s edition of THE COMEDY FESTIVAL. In addition, the show delivered 1.2 million adults 18-49, up 57% vs. last year’s show.
· CHEECH & CHONG ROASTED served up a hefty 2.4 million viewers, TBS’s largest audience ever for a special from THE COMEDY FESTIVAL.
· Other specials from THE COMEDY FESTIVAL this year included FUNNIEST MOVIES OF THE YEAR: 2008, with 1.3 million viewers, and the late-night special LAFFAPALOOZA!, with 1.2 million viewers.
· Collectively, TBS’s specials from this year’s edition of THE COMEDY FESTIVAL outdelivered last year’s specials from the Las Vegas event by 20% among viewers and 29% among adults 18-49.
TBS scored cable’s most-watched Major League Baseball game in history (13.4 million viewers) with the network’s Oct. 19 coverage of game seven of the American League Championship Series. It also ranks as TBS’s biggest audience of all time.
· TBS’s coverage of the ALCS showed tremendous growth when compared to the network’s coverage last year of the NLCS, with viewers up 73%, households up 66%, adults 18-34 up 96% and adults 18-49 up 83%.

"Boston Herald:
How did you manage to stay in touch and on mostly good terms since you went your separate ways in the ’80s?
Cheech: I didn’t know we were broken up for the first six years. I just thought he was late."

Review: Cheech & Chong at Vancouver's Queen Elizabeth Theatre
The Cheech & Chong: Light Up America and Canada tour came to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver last night. Straight.com has written a review of the show.
"Cheech showed amazing range, from the proverbial stoner to game-show host to a southern street singer who told awful (and awfully funny) jokes followed by “Git it? Thank you very much.”"
"Chong was impressive playing the blues on his electric guitar as Blind Melon Chitlin" and "he had a great rapport with the crowd and an easy delivery."

A Weekend in the Life of Cheech Marin
The Los Angeles Times asked Cheech Marin what he enjoys doing and where he enjoys eating on weekends when he's staying at his home in Malibu.
On Friday, he goes to a secret restaurant that wine aficionados would appreciate. He didn't want to reveal its name. On Saturday, he plays golf and eats at the Saticoy Golf Club in Camarillo. Saturday night, Cheech and his pianist fiance, Natasha Rubin, either go to a party or a concert. On Sundays, they may go to Olvera Street or Chinatown.
It's an interesting article. Cheech talks about his favorite restaurants and more.

Why Won't Mary Beth Leave Already?
Typically, when a new President is elected, the nation's federal prosecutors resign. However, U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan says she won't resign.
This is the same Mary Beth Buchanan that wrongfully sent Tommy Chong to prison for nine months for conspiracy to send bongs in the mail.
This is the same Mary Beth Buchanan that raided Spectrum Labs and confiscated a/k/a Tommy Chong DVDs.
This is the same Mary Beth Buchanan that prosecuted the makers of the Whizzinator.

Cheech, Tommy, Shelby and Old Friend of Tommy Discuss Cheech & Chong
Vancouver's Straight.com author, Guy MacPherson, wrote a fantastic article about Cheech & Chong. He interviewed an old friend of Tommy's named Henry Young. In addition, he interviewed Shelby Chong while she was in Nevada for the roast and Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong as they drove from Portland to Eugene, Oregon.
Some highlights:
Tommy Chong and Henry Young met when Henry was 16.
Tommy taught Henry how to play guitar which led to Henry playing with jazz musician Nina Simone.
Henry says Tommy was a lady's man back then.
Tommy's future wife, Shelby Fiddis, lived next door to Chong and his first wife. This is how they met.
Sgt Stadanko was based on a Vancouver NARC named Snidanko.
There is a lot of other great information in the article, but we don't want to spoil it.
