Tommy Chong was on the Fox News Channel today to promote the paperback edition of his book, The I Chong: Meditations From The Joint.
During the interview, Tommy mentioned that his reality show wasn't picked up because it was boring. He said the most exciting thing was him getting into a fender bender, where he cursed a lot.
Regarding the reunion...he said Cheech, more or less, just wants him to be a back-up guitarist for him. That, he said, he will not do.

Man Collects Posters of Bands from the 60s
Rob Frith collects posters of bands from the 1960s. In fact, he's a super collector. Rob Frith's collection includes a 1960 poster for Tommy Chong's first band, the Calgary Shades.
" Tommy Chong of Cheech and Chong fame was astonished to see that Frith had a 1960 poster for Chong's first band, the Calgary Shades, at a long-gone Chinatown nightclub called The Moon Glow. So Frith made him a copy."
Check out the article and poster here.

Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Launch the National Radio Series 'The Big Read'
WASHINGTON, Aug. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- XM Satellite Radio today announced that XM and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) will introduce a national radio series called "The Big Read," named after the NEA's national reading program, which celebrates great books and their place in American life.
Every weekday, the show will air audio recordings of classic novels in 30-minute installments, plus NEA-produced programs about each book, featuring interviews, commentary, and readings by actors, authors and other celebrated personalities: Mary Louise Parker, Robert Duvall, Colin Powell, Sandra Day O'Connor, Garrison Keillor, Cheech Marin, Alice Walker, Edward Albee, Amy Tan, Tony Hillerman, and many others.
"The Big Read" will premiere nationwide September 10 on Sonic Theater (XM Channel 163), the channel dedicated to books and contemporary drama. The first book in the series will be Ray Bradbury's science-fiction novella Fahrenheit 451. Content for the series will be produced by XM, the NEA, and Audible, the leading digital provider of audio books and other spoken-word entertainment.
The NEA first launched The Big Read in 2006 as a national initiative to encourage communities to come together to read and discuss one book. Local organizations receive grants to host community-based programs devoted to a single book, such as The Great Gatsby. More information about the NEA's Big Read initiative is available online at http://www.neabigread.org .
The radio show seeks to build on the success of the NEA's reading program and expand it to a national radio audience. XM has more than 8.2 million subscribers nationwide.
"The Big Read initiative is making a profound difference in communities across the country, encouraging people to embrace the pleasure of books," said Josephine Reed, program director for Sonic Theater. "This new radio show fulfills a long-held goal of mine: to bring different communities across the country together to listen to, think about, and discuss literature. I'm thrilled to be working with NEA Chairman Dana Gioia, as well as our partners at Audible, to bring these great books to XM listeners nationwide."
At the end of each novel, Reed will host a discussion about the book with authors, teachers, and other book lovers.
"The launch of the Big Read on XM Satellite Radio is a major literary event. Creating a daily, national, drive-time show devoted to presenting and discussing great American novels is just what we need to revitalize reading in America," said NEA Chairman Dana Gioia. "This is the perfect marriage of technology and literature to increase the appeal of both. Our partnership with XM Satellite Radio has helped make the largest literary program in American history even bigger."
Each new installment of the "Big Read" radio show on XM will air three times a day, Monday through Friday, on Sonic Theater at 2:30 am, 10:30 am, and 4:30 pm (all times ET) starting September 10 with Fahrenheit 451.
Future installments of the "Big Read" radio show will be devoted to Willa Cather's My Antonia, Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers, and The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan.
More information about "The Big Read" radio show on Sonic Theater is available online at http://www.xmradio.com/onxm/channelpage.xmc?ch=163

Cheech to Speak at Indiana University
Indiana University's Omnibus Lecture Series is dedicated to presenting diverse ideas through educated, respected, and entertaining speakers for the university community and the residents of northeast Indiana. Celebrating its 13th year, Omnibus has featured such notable presenters as Betty Friedan, James Earl Jones, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Ralph Nader, John Updike, Joyce Carol Oates, Depak Chopra, Eric Schlosser, Seymour Hersh, and Gail Sheehy.
This season features:
Cheech Marin, comedian and actor
Carl Bernstein, reporter and author
Samantha Power, journalist and professor
Henry Louis Gates, Jr., writer and scholar
Jerry Greenfield, entrepreneur,
Daniel Glaser, US Treasury Department Financial Terrorism official
Best known as one half of the hilarious counter-culture, no-holds-barred duo of “Cheech and Chong,” Cheech Marin is a paradox in the world of entertainment. As an actor, director, writer, musician, art collector, and humanitarian, he’s a man who has enough talent, humor, and intelligence to do just about anything.
For the past few years, Marin is finding a whole new audience through his Chicano art collection, which is one of the largest in the world. His collection forms the core of Chicano Visions: American Painters on the Verge, a traditional art exhibition, and is accompanied by Chicano Now: American Expressions, an interactive multimedia exhibition. In 2002, a coffee table book featuring highlights of his collection and exhibition was published.
Marin’s speech is titled “An Interpretation of a Culture through Chicano Art.”
When: Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007 | 7:30 p.m.
Auer Performance Hall, John and Ruth Rhinehart Music Center
The lectures are free and open to the public. Free parking is accessible in nearby lots and doors open at 6:30 p.m. Sign language interpretation is available upon request. For more information, visit www.omnibuslectures.org or contact University Relations and Communications at 260 481-6808.

A reporter spotted Cheech Marin at the Marion Antiques Show in Massachusetts last weekend. He was in town for an Ocean Spray charity golf tournament.
The reporter was a huge Cheech and Chong fan and was honored to meet him. According to the reporter, "Cheech said he has been staying with a friend in Marion for the summer. I have since found out who that friend is, but I’m not telling. I’m one of the few journalists that do try to protect people’s privacy, when possible."

Cisco Adler Living The Rock Life
Cisco Adler, son of Lou Adler (Director of Up In Smoke, producer of the Cheech and Chong albums), is living "The Rock Life." "The Rock Life" is the title of his reality show which has been airing Monday nights on VH1.
Here's a brief synopsis of the show...
Malibu, California. It's 27 miles of the most exclusive coastline in the country. It's also home to the rowdiest rock band you've never heard of--WHITESTARR. They're a mixture of rock royalty and wide-eyed wannabes...five guys on one mission: to single-handedly save rock and roll. All they need now is for someone to take them seriously. Each week this band of brothers puts bros before hos as they set out on a musical odyssey to get drunk, get laid and get famous.
You may have seen his naked photos on the web. He's frequently getting naked for no apparent reason. He's also known for dating OC actress Mischa Barton.
Entertainment Weekly interviewed him. You can read it here.

Video: DVX Interview with Tommy Chong
DVX conducted this really funny interview with Tommy Chong shortly before he went to prison.
Tortilla Art?
Fifty-seven year old Hispanic artist, Joe Bravo, creates art in a very unusual way. He uses tortillas. That's right, tortillas.
Bravo's art is becoming more and more popular. In fact, Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers recently purchased a large-format tortilla for approximately $3200. Bravo says that Cheech Marin is also looking to purchase a piece.
Bravo has an upcoming exhibit in China and won the "play with your food" award at the 2007 Food Network Awards.

London's Hamstead and Highgate Express reviewed Tales from Earthsea, an anime film based on the Earthsea fantasy novels. Cheech Marin, Timothy Dalton, Willem Dafoe, Matt Levin, Mariska Hargitay and Blaire Restaneo do the voices.
The editor summed up the review by saying "There's nothing to excite the eyes in this movie but plenty to deaden the other senses."
