Cheech Marin has joined the cast of Robert Di Nero's new film, The War with Grandpa.
"Tim Hill is set to direct the adaptation of Robert Kimmel Smith’s 1984 novel, which follows a young boy who loves his grandpa Ed (De Niro). But when his grandfather’s wife dies, he has to move in with his grandson and takes his room — much to the youngster’s dismay, who plots a series of pranks to drive him out."
Cheech will portray Ed's friend.
Sounds like a really corny movie.

One of Best Interviews Ever Conducted with Tommy Chong
Last week, Steve Bloom (Celeb Stoner) interviewed Tommy Chong at ICBC Berlin 2017 in Berlin, Germany. We typically see are a couple sentences in newspapers where Cheech and Chong are promoting their upcoming gig.
This is the first time I've seen a long-form format with Tommy Chong in which his responses weren't one-liners from his stand-up routine.
At one point, Steve plays Tommy the song he co-wrote while he was in Bobby Taylor and the Vancouvers...Does Your Mama Know About Me? Tommy looks so proud taking a trip down memory lane.
Steve Bloom didn't ask any hard/controversial questions, but this probably wasn't the appropriate forum.
For instance, Steve should have pressed Tommy for the real story behind the sketch Dave's Not Here.
Other than that, this interview is excellent.

Cheech Details the Horrors of Working with Tommy Chong in his New Memoir
Richard Cheech Marin's autobiography, Cheech Is Not My Real Name...But Don't Call Me Chong!, will be released March 14th. In it, Cheech says got tired of dealing with 'some f***ing Tommy s**t' from the 'world's humblest megalomaniac.' He goes on to say they were never best friends, they were like brothers.
However, friendship and partnership imploded after Chong wanted to be the 'star director' and everything be 'his idea' He claims that after Up in Smoke, the offers started coming for Cheech, but not for Tommy. He says he turned down the offers because he didn't want to separate the act. Yet, this still agitated Tommy.
We don't know if this is mentioned in the book, but a big part of the problem is Shelby Chong's dismay over Cheech's alleged marital issues. We also heard that allegedly Cheech and Tommy were going to sign a movie deal while Tommy was in prison, but Cheech would only sign if Shelby wasn't involved in the picture.
They mostly got back together because of money. Cheech had two divorces and Chong had his legal bills. Chong had this site repeatedly send emails to Cheech encouraging him to reunite.

Cheech Marin to Speak in Santa Monica
The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage in Santa Monica and DIESEL, A Bookstore present Richard "Cheech" Marin live, and on stage, on March 30 at 7:30pm. Marin will be discussing and signing his new memoir, Cheech Is Not My Real Name: ...But Don't Call Me Chong, with Carolina A. Miranda, staff writer who covers culture for the Los Angeles Times. The memoir will be released on March 14. Each ticket purchase also includes a copy of Marin’s memoir.
Cheech Marin came of age at an interesting time in America. He became a self-made counterculture legend with his other half, Tommy Chong. His insightful memoir delves into how Cheech dodged the draft, formed one of the most successful comedy duos of all time, became the face of the recreational drug movement with the film Up in Smoke, forged a successful solo career with roles in The Lion King and Jane the Virgin, and became the owner of the most renowned collection of Chicano art in the world.
Jane Deknatel, Director, Performing Arts Center, said, "We are pleased to be presenting Cheech Marin, a preeminent force in American culture, as part of a new partnership with DIESEL, A Bookstore. This partnership is an avenue to find the intersection of the performing arts with a parallel world of ideas and culture. Our new partnership with DIESEL can allow our audience a way to think about our present and our future, to share the ideas that we learn from books and periodicals with a larger community, and explore the collision of artistic mediums as exemplified by our guest speaker.”
John Evans, owner of DIESEL, A Bookstore, said, "We are always looking for ways to expand our ability for the public to interact with authors, and to bring them and their ideas and thoughts to a larger community. At 530 seats, The Broad Stage gives us considerably more access to this audience than in our store, and gives even a larger public a live experience with the world of Cheech Marin. We live in a time in which the tactile experience – a physical book, a vinyl record, an in person appearance – are increasing in their importance from people who want something more than having the experience of the world from a small low-fi hand held device. I welcome the opportunity to become part of The Broad Stage community and for them to become part of ours.”
Primarily known as an actor, a director, and a performer, Cheech Marin has developed what is arguably the finest private collection of Chicano art. Much of it formed the core of his traveling exhibition Chicano Visions: American Painters on the Verge, which broke attendance records during its groundbreaking 15‐city tour during 2001‐2007 to major art museums across the United States. He states, "Chicano art is American art. My goal is to bring the term ‘Chicano’ to the forefront of the art world.” This focus is what led to his touring exhibitions, The Chicano Collection/La Colección Chicana: Fine Art Prints by Modern Multiples and Papel Chicano: Works on Paper from the Collection of Cheech Marin. He has also produced exhibitions for LACMA (Angelenos/Chicano Painters of L.A.) and the Art Museum of South Texas in Corpus Christi (Menudo: Chicano Art from the Cheech Marin Collection). His exhibition, Chicanitas: Small Paintings from the Cheech Marin Collection, began its national tour in 2011 and is booked at venues in the U.S. and Europe through 2015
Tickets are on sale at online at www.thebroadstage.com and by calling 310-434-3200. Each ticket purchase also includes a copy of Cheech Marin’s Cheech Is Not My Real Name: ...But Don't Call Me Chong.

Cheech and Chong No Longer Welcome on Howard Stern Show
On today's Howard Stern Show, Howard was talking about how people approach him at parties saying Gary Dell'Abate won't allow him on the show anymore. However, we all know that Stern only does boring interviews with A-listers nowadays.
Robin said the same thing happened to her at a party. Tommy Chong approached her saying Gary won't allow Cheech and Chong on the show anymore.
Keep in mind that Howard Stern reunited them on his channel 9 show, back in the day (1991) and a few times since them. Cheech and Chong aren't a great interview and they're not A-listers.

Our Friend Josh Gilbert has Died
Our friend, Josh Gilbert, passed away last night after a long battle with cancer.
Who was Josh Gilbert?
Most may know him as writer, director, producer of the documentary, A/K/A Tommy Chong which chronicles the entrapment and incarceration of Tommy Chong. He spent years creating this film. Josh was one of the most passionate people I've ever known. He was so proud of this film and it won numerous awards.
After it was released, Tommy and Shelby Chong allegedly wanted the rights to the film. Josh refused so they allegedly got one of the film's investors to sue Josh. Josh spent a fortune defending his film and eventually had to get another investor to buy out the unhappy investor.
It's a long, long story and it really sucked the energy out of him.
But Josh was always upbeat. Always had great film ideas. He was always working on documentaries. He briefly worked with Vice TV, also worked on a doc about an autistic boy, Jake the Film, which tugged at your heartstrings. He loved people.
How do I know Josh Gilbert?
I used to own Cheech and Chong Dot Com. I owned it for years and Cheech and Chong didn't care because their Cheech and Chong career was over and the brand was dying. Eventually, I got them to reunite.
All of a sudden, they wanted their domain.
Josh and I spent hours on the phone each night. He told me about all the shit Tommy and Shelby put him through. He told me so many god awful stories about Cheech Marin and the Chong family that I could write a book.
Josh wanted me to change my name to cheechandchong dot com so they couldn't take it away from me.
I last spoke to him in August of this year. He was going in for a stem cell procedure in a last ditch effort to defeat his cancer. He had 3 things on his mind. His son, his cancer and how much Tommy "allegedly" fucked him over. He told me he wanted to post a video on YouTube about Tommy Chong. I told him he should. I don't know if he ever recorded the video, but I know hours of audio were recorded when he was in for treatment.
I somehow knew this would be my last conversation with him. The next day I sent him an email thanking him for everything he did for me.
I'll post memories as they come to mind.
Goodbye, Bub.

Tommy Chong Supports Donald Trump
In an interview with the Ottawa Citizen, Tommy says...
"I love him. I gotta tell you the truth. I had a great epiphany. I was really against him right up until he won, and then I had to change my thinking when he gave his acceptance speech. When he said that he was going to rebuild the infrastructure, to me it made all the sense in the world because he’s a builder. He’s a developer. And what better person to have in the White House than a guy who’s going to remodel the country?"
When asked about the wall...
"the wall is symbolic. What the wall really means is that we have to fix the immigration situation."

Cheech Convinces Obama to Pardon Tommy Chong
In an interview with the Ottawa Citizen, Tommy Chong says that when Cheech Marin met with Obama about an unrelated issue, he asked Obama to pardon Tommy Chong. Obama said he would.
"But to do the paperwork, I have to hire all these lawyers. It’s not worth it. I’m not going to go out of pocket for something that should be given to me so I’m just going to wait it out."
