Cheech Marin Makes Another Attempt at a Sitcom

In what would be be his first comedy series gig in almost 20 years, Cheech Marin is set to co-star on Fox's half-hour pilot Outnumbered.

Inspired by the BBC sitcom, Outnumbered, which is being directed by Larry Charles, revolves around one set of parents Sue (Ana Ortiz) and Pete (Cliff Chamberlain) who are often overwhelmed by their three children. Marin will play Sue's dad, who is taking a pharmacopoeia of prescription pills and believes that sometimes the kids could use a good swat. Marin's only major previous comedy series gig was his role on the Golden Girls spinoff The Golden Palace. The Nash Bridges alum recently did an arc on ABC's Lost and co-starred in Robert Rodriguez's Machete.

"Larry wrote a fantastic script," said MRC TV topper Keith Samples. "Everything fell into place; it had a karmic feel to it. Kevin loved the original and loved what Larry did with the adaptation."

An unbroadcast pilot has been made and further scripts have been written. The pilot will be broadcast, but a date has yet to be given.

Some fast facts:
Golden Girls was a horrible sitcom and a horrible failure.  It aired on CBS.
Larry Charles was set to direct the Cheech and Chong reunion film which was written by Tommy's daughters.
New Line Cinema, the film studio, scrapped the film after Tommy was arrested.
Larry Charles left the project to do Borat, a huge success.
Larry Charles wrote for Curb Your Enthusiasm and Seinfeld.
Cheech's last attempt at a sitcom was Fox TV's The Ortegas.
Fox kept postponing the show because it was terrible.  Back then, most shows on Fox were terrible so this was really terrible.
The Ortegas was originally an NBC show, but they decided they didn't want it.

Legendary Album Cover Design Studio Unlocks Archives to Offer Works from their Amazing Portfolio to Art & Music Fans World-Wide

Portland, OR (PRWEB) December 1, 2010

In the early 1970s, no album cover design agency in the U.S. was hotter than Pacific Eye & Ear. Started in 1972 in Los Angeles by designer Ernie Cefalu after stints on Madison Avenue and with album cover designer Craig Braun, PE&E was built around a team of incredibly-talented young artists who brought the agency’s clients music packaging designs that captured the hearts and eyes of music lovers worldwide and built a portfolio of images that, to this day, are considered amongst the most-iconic of all time.

Who doesn’t remember the first time they saw Aerosmith’s Toys In The Attic, or Alice Cooper’s Billion Dollar Babies? Black Sabbath’s Sabbath Bloody Sabbath or the 3-D lenticular image on the cover of Captain Beyond? PE&E’s range of work was simply astounding and the talents of each of the associated artists (Drew Struzan, Ingrid Haenke, Bill Garland, Joe Garnett, Carl Ramsey, as well as Cefalu himself) would soon translate into their own success and/or fame after the agency disbanded 13 years later. In particular, Cefalu would go on to create greatly-admired campaigns for a wide variety of clients both in and out of the music business, while Struzan would gain world-wide attention for his theatrical posters for block-buster movies such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones, The Muppets, Harry Potter and many others.

Now, for the first time in over 30 years, some of the best-known works from the PE&E archives are available for sale to music fans and art collectors worldwide as part of the Original Album Cover Art collection (http://www.originalalbumcoverart.com). Over 250 original works of art are offered – original paintings, drawings and sketches – as well as a series of limited-edition fine art prints derived directly from the original works in this archive.

In November, 2010, PE&E/OACA released the first five items in what will be a growing portfolio of highly-desirable album cover art prints. With production overseen by Cefalu himself, these prints are produced using only the best materials in order to enhance the visual impact of each of the images. Each finished print in both the unsigned ("Standard") and artist-signed ("Signature") editions is hand-numbered and stamped with the PE&E Corporate seal to ensure authenticity. Each print is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity (a work of art in itself, featuring sample images from the collection), also signed and stamped by Ernie Cefalu.

The first five prints now available include –

Aerosmith’s Toys In The Attic – the cover of the band’s triumphant 1975 release features an illustration by Ingrid Haenke;

Alice Cooper’s Alice At The Palace – the promotional image for an un-staged Broadway extravaganza that was to have been produced in 1972. It features an "Alice as Medusa" image created by Joe Garnett and additional graphics by Drew Struzan and Ingrid Haenke;

Alice Cooper’s Greatest Hits gatefold cover – this St. Valentine’s Day Massacre-themed image by Drew Struzan and Bill Garland was featured on the front cover of the band’s 1974 Greatest Hits package;

Captain Beyond’s Captain Beyond – a collaborative effort (painting by artist Joe Garnett, lettering by Ernie Cefalu) was used as part of a 3D "lenticular" album cover for this band’s 1972 debut recording;

Jesus Christ Superstar Angels – The package for Rice/Lloyd-Webber’s ground-breaking rock musical featured these angels, recreated here in stunning detail by their creator, Ernie Cefalu.

When thinking about the labor of love that produced this collection of images, Ernie looks back in wonder at his timing and good fortune – "Early in my career, I was sent from New York to LA to open the West Coast Satellite office of a creative agency. It was with this company that I conceived and designed the original Rolling Stones Tongue logo, Cheech & Chong’s Big Bambu, Grand Funk Railroad’s E Pluribus Funk and Alice Cooper’s School’s Out album cover designs and packaging. In 1971, I started my own company, Pacific Eye & Ear, which became a main player in "the golden era" of album cover art.

As a young designer, I had the honor and privilege of working side by side with many great, emerging artists. For 13 years, as Pacific Eye & Ear’s Creative Director, I was the creative thread that linked together some of the world’s top illustrators, designers, writers and photographers. It was a luxury for an agency to have even one good illustrator in your arsenal, so imagine having Drew Struzan, Ingrid Haenke, Bill Garland, Carl Ramsey and Joe Garnett all at the same time! That’s what I call, real illustration muscle!

I am so happy to finally be able to offer some of these works to collectors and am truly humbled and honored to have received so much positive feedback about this effort from fans all over the world. I’m also happy to have found a kindred soul in RockPoP Gallery owner Mike Goldstein, and I am eager to work with Mike and the dealers he selects to promote these editions and help them find good homes!"

Goldstein adds – "After meeting Ernie during an interview I did with him about his career, I was amazed to find out that he’d never produced fine art prints of his works. As someone who has made it his mission to advance the appreciation of album cover art and artists in the fine art world, I knew that it was simply a matter of time before I’d take that final step beyond simple reseller to become involved first-hand in a print publishing effort. You can only imagine how lucky I feel to have been able to help Ernie, Drew and the rest of the PE&E team realize their dream to bring the fruit of their labor to art collectors and fans of album cover art worldwide!"

Upcoming Releases – Upon completion of production, PE&E/OACA will also be releasing additional titles, including Alice Cooper – Billion Dollar Babies and Welcome To My Nightmare, Black Sabbath – Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Bee Gees – Main Course and Iron Butterfly – Scorching Beauty (with more to come). These titles all feature the art/ illustrations of Drew Struzan.

Retail pricing for the current editions is as follows (all prices quoted in U.S. Dollars):

Aerosmith – Toys In The Attic – Standard Edition (375 prints) – $350.00;     Signature Edition (125 prints) – $900.00;

Alice Cooper – Alice At The Palace – Standard Edition (375) – $450.00;     Signature Edition (125) – $2100.00

Cheech & Chong Sign Guitar Art on the Sunset Strip

Legendary comedy duo Cheech & Chong returned to The Sunset Strip on Tuesday to sign a giant Gibson guitar bearing their likenesses. Alf Lamont of The Comedy Store introduced Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong in front of Los Angeles’ famed Roxy Theater, one of the West Hollywood venues that gave Cheech & Chong their start.
The pair also were greeted by artist Margaret Garcia, who painted the comedy team for the guitar replica – part of Gibson GuitarTown Sunset Strip. Chong jokingly asked why Cheech got to be on the front of the guitar and why he was relegated to the back. Cheech & Chong then signed the guitar.

Guitar Town Sunset Strip will be on display for the next six months before the guitars are sold at auction, with all proceeds going to charities and nonprofit organizations.

Only Six More Shows Before the Cheech & Chong Reunion is Over. What is the future of Cheech & Chong?

As predicted, the December 18th Cheech & Chong: Get It Legal tour date in Phoenix will probably be their last.  They are still not getting along.

Cheech and Tommy have both admitted they're only doing this reunion for the money.  It's the 'felomony' tour (felony + alimony).  Tommy has legal bills from his 'Operation Pipedream' arrest fiasco and Richard 'Cheech' Marin has 2 ex-wives (Darlene Morley aka Rikki Marin & Patti Heid) and 3 children.

I'm surprised the tour lasted so long.  Tommy insisted the his wife, Shelby Chong, open up for them.  Cheech eventually figured that if Shelby was involved, Cheech's son, Joey should also be involved.  Joey would be the DJ.  Why does a comedy show have a DJ?!!!

In summary:
New movie
Still hasn't happened.  Only legitimate offer was scrapped in 2003 when Tommy went to prison/Shelby insisted she be in the film/Larry Charles left the project to direct Borat.

Animated movie
Keeps being delayed for unknown reasons.  Tommy says he and Cheech are "quality control" for the project, but I don't know if it's related to the delay. It'll probably be released in 2011.  It will probably be released in a handful of theaters or straight to DVD.

Cheech to Appear with Tom Arnold in Maui

Rob Schneider, the iconic comedy superstar who starred and directed the film “Big Stan,” and whose roles as “Duece Bigalow” and “Hot Chick” have made him one of the most recognizable faces in the world, graced the stage of The Maui Theatre in Lahaina last Saturday night to a packed audience. Luminaries such as Ryan Kavanugh, CEO of Relativity Media, were in attendance, and the audience on Maui that consisted of both local residents and tourists came together to support Schneider’s first ever performance in Hawaii. Schneider promoted the appearance on “Lopez Tonight,” the George Lopez talk show that airs on TBS.

Schneider also made several brief appearances to support the series by visiting sponsors of the monthly concert show. Kihei’s popular hotspot “Life’s A Beach” found Schneider stepping up to the stage to perform with a local band, followed by an autograph signing at Diamond Resorts International’s Kaanapali Beach Club. Following the concert, Schneider delighted fans with an appearance at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, the official after party of The Maui Celebrity Series.

William Shatner, Roseanne Barr, Tom Arnold, Paul Rodriguez, Nick Swardson, David Spade, Mos Def, and Tom Green appeared before Schneider. Show creator Brian Evans, who opens for the likes of Jay Leno and Joan Rivers in Las Vegas, appears as the opening act for the stars. Evans also hired local Maui talent to open for the shows. Musical group ARISE and comedian Sunny Dennis appeared as special guests during the Rob Schneider concert appearance.

“Rob was undoubtedly my favorite star to appear,” says Evans. “He brought his mom, and she was a delight to have around. She also kept Rob on his best behavior,” laughs Evans.
Next up for The Maui Celebrity Series is Hal Sparks from the hit show “Queer As Folk,” and who recently had his own Showtime stand-up comedy show. Sparks will perform an evening of stand-up comedy. “I’ve known Hal for years,” says Evans. “He’s had a profound impact on the way I do things today and is one of the most brilliant minds I know.”

On December 30th, Evans brings to Maui comedian Tom Arnold with a special guest appearance by “Cheech and Chong” star Cheech Marin. 14 year old comedian Nermin Zajic will also make an appearance after overwhelming response to his last appearance with Tom Arnold earlier this year. “Nermin brought the house down, and Tom Arnold loved him. Tom’s appearance was so hilarious that I’d been inundated with requests to bring him back.” Actor Shawn Hatosy (”Alpha Dog”, “In & Out”) will also make a special appearance at the concert.

The Maui Celebrity Series is currently being developed to become a monthly concert series on a major cable network. “It’s going to be a sort of Maui Unplugged” show, definitely not a reality show that seeks to make the island look ridiculous. This show will be focused on the show, and the brilliant people of Maui who make it all happen,” says Evans.

Evans is working on his own major label debut, which will feature a duet with Kelly Osbourne and a track written by Ahmet Zappa. Evans penned nine of the fourteen songs to be featured on the new CD. Evans is also co-creator of “Horrorscope,” a story developed with Zappa, currently in development.
For more information about The Maui Celebrity Series visit www.themauicelebrityseries.com. Tickets may be purchased for any show at Ticketmaster.com, or by calling the theatre at (808) 856-7973. The series is also featured in the seat pocket of every commercial airline in the world, in the magazine SkyMall.

The Maui Celebrity Series is sponsored by Trilogy Excursions, Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, Haui’s Life’s A Beach (in Kihei, Hawaii), and is brought to you by Diamond Resorts International. The Maui Celebrity Series is produced by Brian Evans, Andrew Biltz, and Arman Zajic.

Video: Greg Giraldo Roasts Cheech & Chong

Here's a clip from the Cheech & Chong Roast. It took place at the comedy festival in Aspen and aired on TBS in November 2008.

All in all, the roast is terrible. Word-on-the-street is that Cheech & Chong's team was too cheap to finance a professional quality roast. Definitely not comedy central quality. Try not to have a seizure from the never-ending laugh track.

Greg Giraldo is the only person that kicked ass during this roast. He always kicked ass. He's at the 02:30 mark.

RIP Greg Giraldo.

High Times Stony Award Winners

The 10th annual High Times Stony Awards took place last night at the Music Box in Hollywood, California. The event was hosted by Cheech and Chong. The Office's Craig Robinson performed.

Stonette of the Year went to Drew Barrymore for Going the Distance.

Hot Tub Time Machine also won Best Comedy.

Doc of the year went to Cheech & Chong's Hey Watch This.

New Low Price on Things are Tough All Over DVD

Cheech & Chong's legendary film, Things are Tough All Over, has a great new price.  $8.99!!

This is the first time they’ve appeared on the screen in dual roles. Tommy Chong plays Prince Habib, a maniacal Arab, as well as the famous spaced-out wanderer. Richard "Cheech" Marin is Habib’s wily brother, Mr. Slyman, in addition to his usual role. They're hired by Slyman and Habib to drive a limousine from Chicago to Las Vegas, with $5 million secretly stashed in the front seat. In order to get there, the pair sell off the car piece by piece. Cheech and Chong then have a much bigger problem – Slyman and Habib are after them, swearing to kill them, after the appropriate torture. Not one of their more well-known movies, but definitely one of the funniest.

The song Me and My Old Lady made it's debut in this film.  The song was actually written by Gaye Delorme.  Gaye also wrote Earache My Eye.  Not Tommy, as Tommy often claims.

Don Johnson's "Nash Bridges" Judgment Doubled

Don Johnson, who co-starred with Cheech Marin in the CBS cop drama, Nash Bridges, sued and won a $23.2 million judgment from Rysher Entertainment in February 2009 claiming he had been denied his fair share of profits from "Nash Bridges" as a 50% owner of the copyright.

A judge awarded him an additional $28 million in interest.

While on the show, Johnson earned $40 million from fees as an actor and producer. Rysher argued that the show still runs a deficit.

The V Foundation Raises $2.2 Million for Cancer Research at Napa Valley Wine Celebration

Saint Helena, CA (PRWEB) August 23, 2010
The 12th Annual V Foundation Wine Celebration took place August 6&7 in the Napa Valley, raising a total of more than $2.2 million for critical cancer research. The event is a signature fundraiser for legendary sportscaster and coach Jim Valvano's eponymous V Foundation, raising more than $35 million since it was first held in 1998.

As guests sipped glasses of single vineyard Nickel & Nickel Cabernet, Chairman Bob Lloyd announced that The V Foundation had reached their goal of raising $100 million dollars for cancer research.  The room cheered as Duke Coaching Legend Mike “Coach K” Krzyzewski joined Lloyd onstage alongside Nick Valvano, Jimmy V's brother, to pledge their support in raising the next $100 million. "Give till it hurts, you can afford it," teased Krzyzewski, who offered up a heartfelt, albeit humorous, keynote speech to kick off the evening. Local Vintner, Chicago-Area Socialite and cancer survivor Teri Kuhn spearheaded an impassioned Fund-A-Need to benefit Leukemia research. Cyril and Blakesley Chappellet were also honored with a Vintner Grant to benefit Melanoma research in honor of a cherished family friend.

Giving was the order of the day for the roughly 530 guests who assembled in the Napa Valley to enjoy private dinners and receptions, as well as an update on research advances from The V Foundation's Scientific Advisory Board, before arriving at the grand finale gala dinner and auction at Nickel & Nickel Winery. The evening was one of extraordinary generosity on all fronts, with the largest and most diverse auction catalog ever assembled for the event. "As our cause catches on, the donations have exceeded our wildest dreams," notes Julie Constantin, the Marin-based Venture Capitalist who helped create the first V Wine Celebration event more than a decade ago. Original owner of Screaming Eagle, Jean Phillips, donated a 3-liter in honor of fellow vintner and good friend, Teri Kuhn of Pillar Rock, and her battle with Leukemia. Tickets to events such at the ESPYs, the Superbowl, and court side seats at the Duke University vs. UNC college basketball game were just a few of the outstanding auction lots offered.  Popular items included a week's stay in a luxurious Maui oceanfront home, an Audi drive-and-dine experience, international vacations in Fiji, Bali, Tuscany and Argentina, and lots of fabulous wine. Spotted in the crowd were V supporters including Steve Bornstein (President of the NFL Network), Cheech Marin, Donna Orender (President of the WNBA) and  Robin Roberts (Network Anchor GMA/ABC).

"Cancer touches everyone, and everyone has the power to do something about it. This group and this event are a great example of that -- we are very proud of everyone who's involved here; donors, bidders, and researchers. This weekend is always about saying thanks, and renewing our commitment to the fight. An organized team is a really, really powerful thing. I think we proved that again this year, and we'll keep doing it until we've got a cure," says Bob Lloyd, Chairman of The V Foundation. "But it doesn't mean we can't have fun doing it, right?"

The V Foundation Wine Celebration will be held again August 5 & 6, 2011, with 100% of all net proceeds and new cash donations from events applied directly to innovative cancer research grants and opportunities. For  more information or tickets to the 2011 event visit www.winecelebration.org.

About The V Foundation: Since 1993, The V Foundation has raised more than $100 million, awarding cancer research grants to 92 institutions in 38 states and the District of Columbia. The V Foundation’s Scientific Advisory Board, comprised of some of the top physicians and research scientists from prominent universities and cancer centers nationwide, assures that only the cancer research projects with the most potential are funded.  Best of all, 100 percent of all new direct cash donations and net event proceeds go directly to cancer research and related programs. Recognized for its prudent fiscal management, The V Foundation has earned a top four-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest charity evaluator, for a seventh consecutive year. Only 2% of the charities in the US have achieved this high honor.

Will the Cheech & Chong Reunion Continue?

Richard 'Cheech' Marin's career is stronger than ever right now.  He has Robert Rodriquez's star-studded, Machete, being released September 3rd.  He also has a lucrative Disney Pixar Cars 2 film and merchandising deal.

So the question is 'Will Cheech & Chong's November 20th reunion show in San Antonio be their last?'

Cheech and Tommy have both admitted they're only doing this tour for the money.  That's why they refer to it as their 'felimony' tour.  Chong has numerous legal bills from his felony conviction for conspiracy to mail drug paraphernalia to undercover federal agents in Pennsylvania.  Richard Marin has large alimony payments for his ex-wives.

During their summer hiatus, Cheech has been keeping busy with mainstream film roles.  Tommy, on the other hand, is back to doing stand-up with his wife at clubs such as the Hyatt Regency in Guam.  Yes, Guam.

They both say they're each like a piece of a treasure map.  They need both pieces to find the treasure ($$).  However, the hope for a movie deal has failed to materialize and the release date for the Cheech & Chong Animated Movie keeps getting pushed back.

Only time will tell what happens.

Cheech to be in Disney's Cars 2

Cheech Marin has said young fans of Disney/Pixar's Cars have a lot to be excited about.

"There is a Cars 2. I've just signed a deal for it, so it will be out," the actor, who voices Ramone in the lucrative animated film, announced.
The Cheech And Chong star came out to party with his young fans in Los Angeles as the movie launched its very own interactive website WorldofCars.com

"You can go on to this online site and there are a zillion doors in it, you can make a new car, get in to a game, get your fortune told, you can go to the moon," Cheech explained.

The actor revealed he hadn't anticipated how huge the first movie would be.

"It's amazing, I've never seen anything like it, and I've been in a lot of hits.

"The ancillaries that have come out of this movie, I'm in the studio all the time doing voices for Cars. When will it stop?" he laughed.

The actor said to get in to character he simply has to "channel my inner low-rider and away I go."

Cheech laughed about how he's become incredibly cool to kids of a certain age.

"I do the voice and they're like star struck. It's like Leonardo DiCaprio or the Jonas Brothers," he said.

Cars 2 will be released in June 24, 2011.

We need to encourage our community to vote this November. This year's Christmas special will feature the Simpson's as puppets.  This year's Treehouse of Horror Halloween special will feature games, such as Chutes and Ladders, come to life, as well as a parody of The Office.

The Cheech & Chong episode will air Spring 2011. It was written by written by Dan Castellaneta (who voices Homer) and Deb Lacusta.  It spoofs the more than two decades-long break-up. Tommy Chong in Headshop Commercial

Tommy Chong recently shot a commercial for Mary Jane's House of Glass in Vancouver, Washington.

I don't know who talked Tommy Chong into doing this commercial.  Maybe, Shelby wanted some extra shopping money.  I'd understand if Tommy did this before the Cheech & Chong reunion, but to do this now is just plain embarrassing.

It probably airs on public access.

Tommy Chong's management is probably slamming their heads against the wall.

Chong Talks About the Origin of the Bit 'Dave'

Tommy Chong was on KTNV's action news promoting this weekend's Cheech and Chong: Get It Legal shows in Vegas.  During the interview, Tommy once again talks about the origins of their 'Dave' bit.  Tommy once again stretches the truth about the origins of their 'Dave' bit.

Another version of the story which Tommy doesn't mention during this interview is that Cheech was knocking on the door of where Cheech and Chong were recording some bits.  The door was locked, Tommy was fucking with Cheech and the entire thing was recorded.  Then, they re-recorded the bit for their album.  Tommy says the original tape has since been lost and he says the original tape was funnier than the one on the album.

The truth...
The bit 'Dave' which is featured on their first, self-titled album, was written by this guy named Dave in the comedy troop they were part of in Canada.  Duh, didn't everyone think it was odd that Cheech was asking for Dave?  The real Dave is mentioned briefly in one of Tommy's books.

Nice!  Mary Beth Buchanan, the former US Attorney General, that wrongfully prosecuted Tommy Chong for conspiracy to sell bongs through the internet, has lost Pittsburgh's 4th Congressional District Republican primary.

Buchanan only had 33% of the vote.

This is the same Mary Beth Buchanan that raided Spectrum Labs and confiscated a/k/a Tommy Chong DVDs.

Director, Josh Gilbert, Responds to Chong's Disparaging Comments

Last month, Tommy Chong, made disparaging comments about a/k/a Tommy Chong Director, Josh Gilbert, to Eye Weekly.

This is typical of Tommy Chong, Cheech Marin and Shelby Chong. They badmouth me, the owner of this site/former owner of Cheech and Chong Dot Com/the guy that got them to reunite, in one of the Extras on their new live tour DVD/Blu-ray, Hey Watch This.

Today, Eye Weekly published a response from Josh Gilbert. It's a good read and is just the tip of the iceberg of what really went down.  The entire story is shocking and atrocious.

Cheech's The Perfect Game Gets Less Than Perfect Reviews

The film, The Perfect Game, was released this week to mediocre reviews.  Cheech is a priest, again.  Seems that film studios only hire Cheech Marin to play a priest or a chihuahua.

They re-shot this film twice.  The cast kept changing.  The film studio kept postponing the release date because they didn't want to lose money and rightly so.

Here are a couple sample reviews:

Time Out New York says "the Christian sermonizing leans heavily on vague, theologically dubious suggestions of divine baseball providence" and "The Perfect Game courts its target demos like a leg-humping hound, but sports fans, believers, Latinos and even young wanna-be Willie Mayses can find fellowship elsewhere."

Cinesnob says "It would take a heck of a lot more to make “The Perfect Game” as interesting as the black and white photos of the real-life players it displays during the closing credits. That’s the story everyone should really be rooting for" and Sadly, “Game” plays like a lightweight athlete despite its big, misplaced heart."

If you really want to see this, I'd wait for the DVD.
