Comedy Central says it will stream comedy acts from the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival next month.
The network announced Thursday that it will webcast a three-hour show June 12 featuring performances from Bonnaroo's Comedy Tent.
The 10-year-old festival held in Manchester, Tenn., centers on music but has long offered top comedy acts as counter-programming.
This year's performers include Lewis Black, Donald Glover, Eugene Mirman, Cheech Marin and John Waters. Jon Benjamin will host. His Comedy Central show "Jon Benjamin Has a Van" makes its debut in June.
The show will package the acts from the four-day festival. It will stream on ComedyCentral.com and be available on mobile and tablet devices.
Music acts from the festival will be streamed by Vevo.
Tommy Chong announced today he'll be introducing new music when he performs and hosts this year's Spring Gathering June 11th in San Bernardino, CA. Note: They are not Cheech and Chong songs....They are songs written by a seventy-three year old man trying to stay relevant while not on stage with Cheech Marin.
Everyone should expect to hear the same jokes he's been performing for years as a solo act and during the Cheech and Chong reunion tours. For example, "i had a talk about drugs with my kids, told them when they smoke my weed, they should replace it." and "it's not true what they say about getting raped in prison..it doesn't hurt." etc etc.
Tommy Chong will guest star as a judge on the July 20th episode of Franklin & Bash. Franklin & Bash is a new legal drama/comedy series on TNT starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Breckin Meyer. The episode is titled "The Bangover."
Cheech Marin was at Gotham Hall in NYC yesterday for the Estrella TV upfronts. Cheech didn't stick to the written script because he said he'd been recently diagnosed with CSS (can't see shit). Old joke!
Estrella TV is an alernative to Telemundo and Univision.
Zane Buzby, Founder of the Survivor Mitzvah Project was awarded Jewish American Heritage Local Hero of 2011. Here is the video from KCET & Union Bank. Show your support and comment, like and share!!!!!
Zane was Jade East in Cheech and Chong's Up in Smoke. She showed up late to the audition because, being from New York, she had no idea where she was going. She improv'd the entire audition.
LOS ANGELES, May 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Zane Buzby, founder and president of The Survivor Mitzvah Project, has been honored with the 2011 Local Hero Award by KCET and Union Bank. Conferred during Jewish American Heritage Month (May), the award recognizes individuals who are making an impact in their communities to enrich the lives of others.
Zane Buzby has spent decades making people laugh as a successful performer turned television comedy director. But her life took a dramatic turn during a 2001 "roots" trip to Eastern Europe. Behind the "Iron Curtain" she connected with elderly Holocaust survivors in their eighties and nineties who were ill and alone, living in abject poverty. They were struggling to survive, lacking the means to buy even the most basic human necessities: food, medicine, heat and shelter. Shocked, Zane felt compelled to help. She and Professor Dovid Katz in Lithuania searched for other survivors in dire need. Her initial aid efforts served as the catalyst for the creation of "The Survivor Mitzvah Project." ("Mitzvah" means "good deed" in Hebrew.)
Partnering with Chic Wolk, a Los Angeles philanthropist, the SMP grew. In 2008, it became a 501c3 non-profit public charity that now helps over 1000 survivors monthly in seven countries in Eastern Europe. This grassroots organization is the only organization worldwide that provides direct and continuous financial aid to these last survivors of the Holocaust who receive no financial aid from any other organization. The Survivor Mitzvah Project is their only lifeline.
"I am honored by this recognition," said Buzby, "especially if it enables more people to find out about The Survivor Mitzvah Project. I have to believe that there are enough good people out there who will say, 'Yes, I will help'. There are still thousands and thousands of survivors living in horrific conditions, still waiting for aid. Time is of the essence."
Zane Buzby is a successful television director, producer, and committed humanitarian. She has directed over 200 episodes of network television including such hit comedies as "Golden Girls," "Newhart," and "Married…with Children." She has produced and directed television series and pilots for CBS, ABC, NBC, HBO, FOX, Columbia Pictures, Warner Brothers, Universal Pictures, Disney, Comedy Central and Paramount Pictures.
Buzby began her professional career as a classically trained actor in New York. Discovered by Carl Reiner, she was cast in the feature films "Oh God," "Cheech & Chong's Up In Smoke" (as groupie Jade East), "Cracking Up" (opposite Jerry Lewis) and Rob Reiner's "This Is Spinal Tap" (as the hip Rolling Stone reporter).
Using her directorial skills and story-telling abilities, Ms. Buzby aspires to impart the history and the plight of these survivors to the local community, inspiring people young and old to participate in this urgent humanitarian effort. She has created The Survivor Mitzvah Project's educational archive of their life histories and Holocaust testimonies, as well as a book of their letters. Buzby is currently making a documentary, "FAMILY OF STRANGERS," about the survivors she visits on SMP's humanitarian aid expeditions.
"The real triumph for me is the discovery that one can dramatically change a person's life with a simple act of kindness...To have created a warm and loving family of strangers where before there was only isolation and hopelessness is endlessly gratifying. I believe that by helping these survivors we can write a more hopeful final chapter to the Holocaust, one of friendship, love and kindness." The year-long Cultural Diversity Partnership will culminate in a gala event in October honoring 11 recipients for 2011.
The Fox Network decided not to pick up the awful 30-minute Cheech Marin sitcom, Outnumbered. It would have been Cheech's first sitcom in almost 20 years.
Inspired by the BBC sitcom, Outnumbered, which is being directed by Larry Charles, revolves around one set of parents Sue (Ana Ortiz) and Pete (Cliff Chamberlain) who are often overwhelmed by their three children. Marin will play Sue's dad, who is taking a pharmacopoeia of prescription pills and believes that sometimes the kids could use a good swat. Marin's only major previous comedy series gig was his role on the Golden Girls spinoff The Golden Palace. The Nash Bridges alum recently did an arc on ABC's Lost and co-starred in Robert Rodriguez's Machete.
This single camera show is so bad that Fox won't even be airing the pilot. The British show this was based on was brilliant. The Cheech & Chong films were brilliant, but Cheech is a terrible comedic actor and was completely miscast.
Some fast facts:
Golden Girls was a horrible sitcom and a horrible failure. It aired on CBS.
Larry Charles was set to direct the Cheech and Chong reunion film which was written by Tommy's daughters.
New Line Cinema, the film studio, scrapped the film after Tommy was arrested.
Larry Charles left the project to do Borat, a huge success.
Larry Charles wrote for Curb Your Enthusiasm and Seinfeld.
Cheech's last attempt at a sitcom was Fox TV's The Ortegas.
Fox kept postponing the show because it was terrible. Back then, most shows on Fox were terrible so this was really terrible.
The Ortegas was originally an NBC show, but they decided they didn't want it.
There were those who said it could never be done. There were those who laughed at the idea of one man, one camera and $5000 to film a complete zombie epic, but here we are and that one man, Thomas Newman has proven his detractors wrong. The $5000 zombie film Bong of the Dead by Thomas Newman is going to the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.
May 6, 2011 - Vancouver, BC - Bong of the Dead a movie by writer, producer and director Thomas Newman keeps getting better and better news. Film festivals and distributors are lining up to get a piece of flesh from this zombie film and they don't come any bigger than the Cannes Film Festival. Newman received notice that the film Bong of the Dead will be added to the Cannes 2011 program. Newman hit the Indy home run but the good news didn't stop there for this growing star director.
The king of pot comedy Tommy Chong said of Bong of the Dead, "This is a sure winner". Tommy Chong is still being courted to appear at the May 15, 2011 movie premiere in Vancouver at the Rio Theatre so fans will want to stay tuned and hurry up and get some of the few remaining tickets. There will be prizes and giveaways so don't miss out!
For 3 solid years Thomas Newman has been plugging away relentlessly on his dreams by creating his film all by himself in his basement. The movie was originally shot on location 3 years ago with a small crew compiled of close friends and family. He then took the footage which was shot over the course of only 15 days on one camera and went to work editing, mixing music and enhancing over 365 shots by hand!
Now that Thomas Newman is finally getting his much deserved recognition, it looks like the filmmaker is on his way to the big show. If you are in France during the Cannes Film Festival, be sure to check out what all the hype is about as the film will be premiering there on May 12th and 14th.
If you reside in or near Vancouver BC then hop over to the Rio Theatre and catch the film's Vancouver premiere there on May 15, 2011 at the Rio Theatre at 1660 East Broadway, Vancouver at 6:30pm.
CNN and the corporate media report this evening that purported CIA asset Osama bin Laden has been killed by the U.S. military in a mansion outside the Pakistani capital of Islamabad along with other family members.
In an address to the nation, Obama said he ordered the strike that allegedly killed Osama. The remainder of his speech followed the standard war on terror propaganda script.
A small team of Americans killed bin Laden in a firefight at a compound in Pakistan, the president said in a dramatic late-night statement at the White House, the Associated Press reported following Obama’s address.
Obama said the military took custody of his remains. It remains to be seen if the government will attempt to provide evidence that the remains are indeed those of Osama bin Laden.
“The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done,” said former president Bush. In 2006, Bush admitted that capturing Osama was not a top priority.
In February, 2004, Iranian state radio claimed Osama bin Laden had been captured in Pakistan’s border region with Afghanistan “a long time ago.” Pentagon and Pakistani officials denied the report. “Osama bin Laden has been arrested a long time ago, but Bush is intending to use it for propaganda maneuvering in the presidential election,” the radio report said.
Osama bin Laden died of kidney failure soon after the September 11, 2001, attacks. In 2002, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said bin Laden had kidney disease, and that he had required a dialysis machine when he lived in Afghanistan. That same year, the FBI’s top counterterrorism official, Dale Watson, said, “I personally think he is probably not with us anymore.”
A Taliban leader told the Pakistan Observer on December 21, 2002, that Bin Laden was suffering from a serious lung complication and died in mid-December, in the vicinity of the Tora Bora mountains. The source claimed that bin Laden was laid to rest honorably in his last abode and his grave was made as per his Wahabi belief, according to Fox News.
Alex Jones was told live on the radio in 2002 by high-level Council on Foreign Relations members that Osama Bin Laden had died of kidney failure in early 2002.
“I have it from high level [sources] from inside the Bush administration…that bin Laden died of natural causes and that his family has given the body to the CIA, that they’re gonna roll him out right before the election, that he’s on ice right now. They will claim they killed him right before the election,” Alex said at the time.
“Jones gave a caution that the intelligence could be disinformation but claimed that his base in Austin was extremely close to the Bush administration and similar information received in the past had been credible,” Paul Joseph Watson wrote in August of 2002.
During the 2004 election, CNN reported that Democratic insiders had been told that George W. Bush was going to use the Bin Laden body as an ace-in-the-hole if he thought he was in danger of losing the 2004 election. This confirmed the evidence that Jones had been given by the CFR and others.
In 2003, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright told Fox News Channel analyst Morton Kondracke she suspected Bush knew the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden and was waiting for the most politically expedient moment to announce his capture.
Benazir Bhutto, who was killed in a suicide attack at the end of 2007, stated that Osama bin Laden had been killed by Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, a man convicted of kidnapping and killing journalist Daniel Pearl.
Obama’s announcement follows the release of a highly suspicious birth certificate last week. Both events represent psychological operations that possibly portend more significant events in the days ahead as the U.S. dollar continues to lose its reserve status, the economy fails to recover as promised, and wars expand in Libya, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
Obama’s propaganda stunt arrives as the Democrats kick off their leader’s presidential reelection bid against a number of Republicans contenders who have been highly critical of not only his perceived handling of the economy, but also his management of the manufactured war on terror.
