Now Who Should We Vote For?

Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong are or were strong supporters of Obama. However, Obama's choice of Biden as his running mate, could cause problems.

Tommy Chong told the Washington Post, “Check out the people you’re voting for”... “For instance, Joseph Biden comes off as a liberal Democrat, but he’s the one who authored the bill that put me in jail. He wrote the law against shipping drug paraphernalia through the mail - which could be anything from a pipe to a clip or cigarette papers.”

We haven't heard from Cheech or Tommy as to whether or not this changes their votes.

Biden coined the term “drug czar” and has championed the Office for National Drug Control Policy.

When asked if they'll last all the way through these shows, George says "They might not. I’ll tell you this: they’re not going to fly together and they may not stay in the same hotel room, so..."

Found: The Original MUF DVR License Plates

The original owner of the MUF DVR license plates recently contacted us. The plates used in Up In Smoke were actually replicas.

Here's his story...
The plates started out on an American Motors Gremlin, then in 1973 they went on a T-top Corvette, and finally they were on a customized VW Bug before being retired in 1986. I have both the front and rear plates intact, the rear plate has the CA DMV stickers on it up to 1986. Again, these are the real deal; they are slightly worn from all the years on being on the road and turning heads in So Cal, but they're still a show-stopper when I pull one out of my golf bag to win a bet. I have always wondered who it was that saw my plates and decided to use a copy for Cheech's car in Up and Smoke; was it him or someone in the movies production company?

Tommy Chong Book Tour: Live Coverage Day One

Day One
August 12, 2008.

Today, we are providing coverage (sometimes live) of the Tommy Chong Cheech & Chong: The Unauthorized Autobiography book tour. We'll also have photos and video.

Howard Stern Show (7AM):
Cheech's managers put the reunion tour together. Cheech agreed to have Shelby Chong open the tour. It was incredible performing with Cheech after all these years. It felt like it had only been a couple weeks since they last saw each other.

Tommy mentioned a lot of stories from his book such as maintaining two families after cheating on his first wife with Shelby, meeting celebrities, watching the film Thumbelina on acid, getting a boner on a nude beach in France, Jimi Hendrix's underage groupies, Cheech & Chong discovered the Jackson 5, beating Bob Dylan in basketball, admiration of Red Fox and Lenny Bruce. Saddest moment was years ago, when Tommy saw Cheech at an event and said hi, but Cheech ignored him.

Richard Christie came in a told Tommy he's his biggest comedy influence.

Cheech and Chong are adding more tour dates. They are coming to Radio City Music Hall.

Fox News (8:45AM):
It was a brief interview (5 mins), they mentioned the book, discussed Cheech & Chong tour, a/k/a Tommy Chong DVD.

Borders Books (12:15PM):
Tommy signed books and memorabilia until approximately 1PM. Tommy said his flight was delayed so he didn't get into NYC til 4AM. He's operating on zero sleep. There were a lot of photographers and a tv crew from the Alex Jones show.

Tommy will sign one other item besides t
he book so if you have a DVD or record, bring it if you're attending a signing.

He said they are definitely doing TWO dates at New York City's Radio City Music Hall, but it has not been announced yet.

We were also told that the 200 people invitation only XM satellite radio event has been moved to a new location. The new location only holds 50 people. Unfortunately, some of the original invitees were contacted because of lack of space. No reason was given for why the venue changed.

XM Satellite Radio, Unmasked (3:00PM):
This was a really cool event. XM has this weekly "Unmasked" show where an XM host
interviews a celebrity. Seth Rogan was last week. Tommy Chong was today. They film and broadcast the show. We're not sure where the video portions airs. Ron of the Ron and Fez Show was the interviewer. He did a great job.

It turns out that Ron owned the comedy club where Tommy performed for the first time after breaking up with Cheech. They went down memory lane a bit.

Tommy that at one point, he and Cheech were considering a reality show produced by the same person that produced The Osbournes. I don't know if Tommy was kidding around or not, but he claims he was at Johnny Carson's mansion after Johnny retired. He saw Johnny do something indicative of a guy that just did coke. Tommy also says he has tons of great Arnold Schwarzenegger stores that he'll share at a later time (note: He mentions one of them at Bookends later that night. Video to be posted shortly.).

Bookends, Ridgewood, NJ (7:00PM):
A few hundred people turned out. It was a great crowd of hardcore Cheech and Chong fans. Various ages. People kept wandered in throughout the evening.

Tommy was originally going to read an excerpt from his book. He started opening the book and then said forget it and took questions from the audience
instead. This was a good idea because it allowed for one on one interaction with fans. He spoke for nearly 30 minutes before signing autographs. He was hysterical. The crowd couldn't stop laughing.

Tommy wrapped up a little before 9PM. He was going back to his hotel to crash because he hadn't slept the night before and has a lot of appearances
booked for tomorrow. Everyone near NYC, should come to Bryant Park tomorrow at 12:30PM for Tommy's book reading.

We will post complete video from Bookends tomorrow.

Review: Tommy Chong's New Book, Cheech & Chong: The Unauthorized Autobiography

Tuesday, August 12th, marks the release date of Tommy Chong's second book, Cheech & Chong: The Unauthorized Autobiography. It's called "Unauthorized" because Cheech Marin was not involved in it's writing. However, Tommy spoke to Cheech's ex-wives, Patti and Rikki, to learn stories and gain insight about Cheech.

This was actually supposed to be Tommy's first book, but he wrote The I Chong: Meditations from the Joint (released 2006) during the nine months he spent in prison in 2003 for "conspiracy to manufacture and distribute drug paraphernalia." Simon and Schuster decided The I Chong would be first, followed by the autobiography.

In the introduction, Chong writes "I know some of you will thumb through the book and go directly to the end to find out what happens. Well, don't waste your time. Because that is not the way I write. I write, as Cheech used to say, "Chinese style," which means all over the place."

The book has an excellent flow to it. You won't want to put the book down until you're finished because the stories Tommy tells are that good, that interesting.

The book discusses what Tommy and Cheech were doing before they met, how they met, drug usage, touring, their family life, lighting up with celebs, what it was like going from broke to wealthy and why they broke up (keep in mind this was written before they reunited).

There's one story about how broke ($$) they were in the beginning. Cheech was living at his girlfriend's house. He wrote to various product manufacturers saying he had problems with their products. The manufacturers would then send him coupons for free items. Cheech also pretended he was a record reviewer. Record labels would send him free albums which he'd turn around and sell because he needed the money.

There are stories about Tommy hanging out with Jack Nicholson, John Lennon (Lennon couldn't smoke up because of immigration issues), John Belushi, Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Sam Kinison wanting to tour with Tommy (Screech and Chong) . There's also a story about jamming with Hendrix.

In addition, the book discusses the origin of many of their sketches and songs. For instance, we learn how Earache My Eye, Ralph and Herbie, Blind Melon Chitlin' and others were written. You should pick up Rhino's double CD Where's There's Smoke, There's Cheech & Chong if you haven't heard them before.

We don't want to give away too many of the stories because that would be like telling someone the end of a good movie before they've had a chance to see it.

Cheech & Chong fans, as well as people not very familiar with Cheech & Chong will enjoy this book.

Tommy will be doing book signings and lots of TV and radio this week. See the schedule on the right.

Purchase the book today.

Pre-Order Cheech & Chong: The Unauthorized Autobiography

Pre-order Tommy Chong's new book, Cheech & Chong: The Unauthorized Autobiography.

The book will be released by Simon and Schuster on August 12, followed by a big press tour. Tommy will be having book signings around the country.

It contains photos from Tommy's personal stash and has lots of juicy Cheech and Chong and celebrity stories. One of our favorite stories is about Tommy meeting Jack Nicholson and John Lennon.

Then, there's the story about how broke ($$) they were in the beginning. Cheech was living at his girlfriend's house. He wrote to manufacturers saying he had problems with their products. The manufacturers would then send him coupons for free items. Cheech also pretended he was a record reviewer. Record labels would send him free albums which he'd turn around and sell because he needed the money.

The book is fantastic. Full review coming soon.

Order it here.
