HBO has pulled the plug on its 13th annual U.S. Comedy Arts Festival. This was a huge event in the comedy world. Lots of people have been on that stage such as Monty Python and the cast of The Simpsons. In fact, this is where Cheech and Chong had announced their now defunct reunion.

No explanation has been given for why it was canceled. The festival may return next year.

Interview with Bobby Taylor

Once upon a time, long before Cheech met Chong, Tommy Chong was the guitarist in the band Bobby Taylor and The Vancouvers. Their biggest hit was in the late '60s..."Does your mama know about me?."

The Vancouver Sun interviewed Bobby Taylor about Vancouver, Tommy Chong and the band.

Some highlights:
  • Bobby met Tommy in 1962 when Tommy came to San Francisco with his band looking for work.
  • Tommy offered Bobby Taylor $750/week and half ownership in his club to perform at the club.
  • Tommy and Bobby discovered the Jackson 5 in 1968 when they opened for the Vancouvers.

Pick Up Santa Claus and His Old Lady

Be sure to pick up Where There's Smoke, There's Cheech and Chong. This 2 CD set contains two essential, hilarious holiday trax, Santa Claus and His Old Lady, and Moe Money (featuring Rudolph).

Not only do you get their greatest bits, but you also receive some awesome unreleased material. The two Up in Smoke radio commercials, found in Rhino Records'™ vaults, haven't been heard since the 70s. These commercials are hysterical, featuring Arab, Saydis Saydat, as well as Horrendo Revolver.

The last track, Old Man in the Park, is a live sketch from a concert at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. It's about a punk harassing an old man. The old man, Chong, fakes a heart attack to get back at him. You have to hear it. This sketch can be seen on their out-of-print "Perform" video.

Besides the great sketches, the 2 CD set includes a booklet laced with photos and the most comprehensive Cheech & Chong bio we've ever read (written by the legendary Dr Demento).

Q & A with Cheech Marin

Our favorite quote from Cheech, " [In School] I was a teacher's worst nightmare: I was a class clown who got straight A's."
