Cheech Marin's House Doesn't Go Up In Smoke

Cheech Marin's house barely escaped fire this past weekend. The drought and arson keeps causing major wildfires in California. Forty-five homes were destroyed.

Cheech and his girlfriend, Natasha Rubin, were in Palm Springs this past Saturday when they received a call from the fire department. The fire department told them that the fire was closing in on their house.

They rushed home to try to protect it. Luckily, the wind stopped and the fire was put out four miles away.

Close call!

Other celebs weren't so lucky. Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers told the LA Times that his house burnt to a crisp.

What Has Zane Buzby a/k/a Jade East Been Up To?

Remember that sexy stoned-out redhead hitchhiker Cheech and Chong drove "all the way" in Up In Smoke? During the Up In Smoke commentary, Cheech briefly mentions that she's now a television director (Married with Children, Blossom).

She's multifaceted. Besides directing, she runs the Survivor Mitzvah Project. She corresponds with Holocaust survivors and when she can, helps them financially.

In additional, she's been developing a live-action comedy titled "Stomp the Run," which will be available on cell phones and the web.

Comedians Pay Tribute to Marilyn Martinez

Last week, dozens of comedians, including Andrew "Dice" Clay, Gabriel Iglesias (Comedy Central), Luenell Campbell ("Borat"), Joey Medina ("Original Latin Kings of Comedy"), gathered at The Comedy Store to eulogize comedienne Marilyn Martinez.

When cohorts became aware of her illness last March, they held a number of benefits to help pay her bills. Cheech Marin hosted a benefit at the Comedy Store this past spring.

Cheech was a big fan of her humor. So much in fact, that in 2006, he took her on his Cheech Marin & Friends comedy tour.

Marilyn Martinez, 52, died on November 3rd of colon cancer.
